Where is the CMOS battery located on the motherboard?
I am having problems with the laptop not wanting to start, and won't keep time. It's leading me to believe that the CMOS battery is dying.

Anyone tell me where it's at to save me some time?

I was fixing a 4420 the other day to replace the DC plug. The cmos battery is not accessible. It is under the keyboard. Having that said... You need to basically take apart the entire laptop to get to the battery.

Take out the LCD, the keyboard, hard disk, memory, and then pry open the case, and remove the cpu cooler, and then pry out the motherboard.

The Extensa 4420 (possibly other models as well) shipped with faulty CMOS batteries. Mine started dying about a year and a half after purchase. Time was always wrong and never wanted to boot up. The CMOS battery is actually under the palm rest, not under the keyboard. This means you'll have to take the entire top off of the laptop, including the LCD screen. It takes awhile, and be very careful with the cables/connectors; I cracked some of the plastic connectors.

Anyway, the CMOS battery model is CR2032, quite common, and only $1 on Ebay. This manual will help you take the laptop apart:
