    Good morning, Newby here

I have returned my Acer Aspire 5512 under extended warranty to have a screen fault repaired. The fault was a 2cm band 2cms in from the right hand side of the screen and there are cracks in each of the hinges on the lid - light getting in (my guess, but I no nothing!).

The repair was judged that I would need a new lid/screen and would take 6/7 days. It is now almost 3 weeks and an update today says that a part has been received and now it needs a main board - can anyone tell me if a screen fault such as this would require a replacement main board?

I am about to write to them and telephoning does not give me all the answers and I want to be sure of my facts.

Any help you can give me would be most appreciated.

    Kind regards

    BusyDee

The graphics card is on the mainboard. Often replacing the mainboard is what they do when they cant locate a problem.

OK, many thanks, I did not want to make a fool of myself by saying 'you (they) should not have to change the mainboard'.

BTW is Mainboard also known as Motherboard?

They are stalling. Follow it up ASAP. Otherwise you might wait a very long time to have your Laptop returned to you.

Its quite crazy. The first thing(I think) techs are trained to do with Laptop repair is to change the MB. Afterall, a Laptop consists of a MB, screen, a keyboard and a chassis (metal or plastic).

So here I am thinking. Cracked hinges. That tells me already that there might be a problem between the MB and your display. A connecting cable maybe?

Hound them for answers. Don't let them keep you waiting unecessarily.
