I bought an ACER Aspire 3 yrs ago. It overheats and shuts down. Apparently there is "nothing wrong with it". I have it sitting on a cooling pad, but it still gets hot, and shuts down. The AC adaptor gets very hot to the touch.

Chap at the electronics store suggested it is not a problem with the AC adaptor, but the battery is being overworked.

I ran the ACER without the battery, but it still shuts down.

This has been fustrating me for 3 years, and now I use the Asus instead, but would like to resolve the ACER shut down. Any ideas please?

You posted this originally in ASUS, I moved it to Acer.

Please post your Acer's model number.

Was it ever dismantled and cleaned with new thermal paste applied to the CPU?
    If it wasn't- it should.

PC sat in store of purchase on 3 separate occasions for weeks on end. Tech support from ACER contacted on 3 separate occasions. No report of any work ever carried out. Thank you for suggestion.

    Do it yourself!!

    Acer tech doesn't know anything.

The fan is probably full of dust. I have this model and it runs well. Its kind of a PIA but you can get the fan out without removing the heatsink, this will probably fix the problem.

For the charger, you need a 90w adapter, thats 4.74 amps, not 3 amps.
