I have a Acer Aspire 8930G, bought brand new 2 years ago.

It's always had a problem playing blu rays. I got over the problem by not using the acer arcade deluxe player it comes with and instead using PowerDVD9.

Now I have a new problem in that the drive doesn't read blu ray discs, it doesn't even spin them up. The computer doesn't recognize any disc what so ever.

It plays DVDs fine but not Blu Rays.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

I had the same problem with Blu-Rays, now mine won't even play DVD's or CD's. Once I get my other PC set up do the essentials I'm going to do a system restore back to factory settings to rule out a software error but if that doesn't cure it I'll be returning it for repair under my extended guarantee. What make is your Blu-Ray drive? Mine's a Panasonic. Does anyone know if these 8930's come with different manufacturer's of the Blu-Ray drive? I'll update this thread with my results once I do a system restore to defaults unless someone else rules out software errors first.

i m not sure if this will help u
because still i have problem but at least i can run bluray demo which came with my laptop.
    i made this
i install power dvd 10 to my computer. (i bought the laptop without windows. i installed windows 7 and all drivers from acer site. so i dont have acer arcade.)
then i put a dvd to my dvd rom. by rigth click i opened options for auto play. there was a list for each media. for example avi will be open with win media player. for blu-ray it was empty. so i choose powerdvd10 for it. and demo blu ray run. still i can not play the rest of bluray discks.
i found some answers from forums. their suggestions were "any dvd" for reginal problems. i installed it no result. dvd rom starting to read. from "any dvd i can see the size of disc. but it never starts. hardware problem? i dont think so. if yes my demo should not play.
i was following ur problem from the begining but no body answered u. we have to solve it by ourself :)
so may be by my suggestion u can make something. pls write ur situation after u tried.
not: i used only demo version of powerdvd any "anydvd".
