Well i am having some issues with the performance of my game. I have heard issues with the Epower causing slow downs with the frame rate and thought i would ask here if people had some suggestions.

Running the settings at full and only getting about 15fps tops. I have only seen it at 24fps once and it wasn't after playing with settings.

I know i am not giving much info at the moment but will post any extra info needed. heck if there is another thread i could not find that would be quite helpful too.

Just did a windows experience check and graphics seems to be the lowest at 4.3 if that means much....

Newest update if anyone is paying attention. I am plugged in and i swap it to balance power plan and now i am getting 32fps. why would it do that...

    >bit of a bump. This is the primary use for my laptop and its becoming vary disruptive. tempted to see if my old laptop will run smoother at lowest settings.

currently sitting at 13fps with bottom rung settings with a latency of 1156

High performance and I am constantly plugged in.

Has to be something computer side. Internets not slow. Game lags no matter what I change there.

tried updating Graphics drivers. Ideally i would like to sit down with someone and troubleshoot it realtime..

    bump once again.

Dont know if this is related at all but since i am just grasping at straws at the moment I have also started getting a message at start up

"Notification tool for RealTek audio chip has stopped working. a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

    audio chip will no work

This won't help, but I've got the 8930 and WoW, and I get between 30 and 60 fps, so there's something definitely wrong there!

What WoW graphics settings are you using?

If you tried drivers perhaps you should consider reformat or factory settings.

    Howdy,

I own an Acer Aspire 8930G laptop too and I noticed the following performance issues under Vista Ultimate:

    1) sometimes for unknown reason, Vista is resetting the max CPU load unter power settings to 0%, which causes Vista to run sluggish. I noticed this as I couldn't run any DVD or BlueRay disc smoothly. The problem vanished after I set the max CPU load for plugged in as well as battery to 100%. Of course this consumes more energy if the laptop runs on battery but I don't care about that.
Recheck the CPU settings always after a rebooting a system
that hung up. I noticed that the settings are always been set to 0% CPU load in that case but I couldn't find a reason for that yet.

    2) check the GRAPHICS POWER MODE under the Acer ePower settings. It is usually set to high only even under HIGH PERFORMANCE and plugged in. So I created a new profile for Gaming Power where I set all the sliders to the far right for max performance.

You may check performance using the Nurien Tech Demo software with various CPU and video settings and you will see what performance boost it brings to set it all to 100% and max graphics power.

Last but not least I take profit of the Vista ReadyBoost feature using a 4Gb SanDisk Extreme III SDHC card with a read/write performance of 30Mb/s.

With this, all of my games run perfectly smooth. I use RivaTuner for additional graphics tweaking but I cannot recommend any oveclocking because this leads to heat problems. It won't harm your laptop though - overheating only leads to automatic switch off of the machine. It won't even shut down - it just switches off.

happy gaming to ya all ;o)

Yes I can confirm it is a bug with the Empowering Technology. For some reason when the Powerplan is set to High Performance and "Plugged in" the CPU speed drops to the lowest settings. Just whack it back to the top and everything should be fine again (until it happens again :D).

I wouldn't recommend fannyning around Vista ReadyBoost feature it's a pointless bag o at the best of times :D. It really is only useful for people with systems with 512Mb ram any more then that and there is 0 performance gain even with 512mb the gain is negligable.

For wow get between 40 and 60 (60 max due to vsync)

    my settings are as follows

    Res: 1920x1080
    Multi Sample: 2x
    View Distance: Max
    Environment Detail: Max
    Texture Res: Max
Terrain Blending: Low (though you could have it on max with a slight performance hit though you wouldnt really notice the difference with it on or off anyways so why bother)
    Ground Clutter: Half Way
    Texture Filtering Half Way
    Particle Density: Max
    Ground Clutter Radius: Max
    Weather: Max
Shadow Quality: Low (I only use this because shadows are bugged anyways and ive noticed them on floors and surfaces where they shouldnt be so I turn it off)
Player Textures: Low (this is a new feature and can create a large performance hit in busy towns or raids)
    All Tick Boxes on.

I also have Sound Quality set to high

Find a spare sata drive and install it in the laptop. Install / restore windows using your CD and see if WOW plays any better.

p.s. you can copy your wow install over to a flash drive (my install is about 16gb atm).
