I'm new here. And yes, i know there were many topics like this, but i haven't found answer I'm looking for.

As in the title, I'm going to buy 9600m card, but there are a lot of versions of chip used in it, and i know not every chip will work on m laptop.

My question is, is G96-630-A1 or G96-600-C1 chip based card compatible with my notebook?

Hello Pioteros, and welcome to the forums!
The correct answer is - NONE. The 9600M GT has been blacklisted in the 5920G's BIOS, and will not work in your machine.
Try to get the 9600M G S instead - the 256MB GDDR3 version is comparable to the 9600M GT.

The 9600M GS uses a slower-clocked G96 core; I think the stock core is 430 MHz or something instead of the 500 MHz in the 9600M GT.

    or

    9600M GS G96-600-C1 VG.9PG06.003 ?

    Any thoughts will they fit?

Check the Acer MXM thread for some of this info.
The VG.9PG06.003 9600M GS is the 512MB DDR2 version, and it might not be a big upgrade from what you've got already. Look for the VG.9PG06.00 7 instead: it's the one with the faster GDDR3 memory.

Not sure about the top part you mentioned - is it a desktop card? Those won't fit in any laptop. You should be looking for an MXM-II card.

I' decided to find 9650M GT, it has DDR2 but 9600M GS With DDR3 is very rare so the decision is clear :) If ill find something I'll go back here again :)

Big thx for replies - especially for you TehSuigi !

The 9650M GT DDR2 is also a popular option, and as the MXM thread shows, someone's already given it a shot. Best of luck!

The 9600m GT GDDR3 is quite a bit faster but the 3650 is still ok.

    Better than the 4570.

couple of days ago i bought a 9500m gs from online auction, i put it in the place of my 8600m gs, everything looked fine, but there was a one problem, not regulary in every 30-40 sec in windows, one quite wide horizaontal stripe was blinking on the screen (it was coloured like artifact), it has rarely blinked while 3d marking or gaming but it was quite annoying anyway

i don't know what could be wrong, i have sent it back and now i'm waiting for another one

How easy was it to put in the 9500M? My display has started flickering on my 5920G and I'm wondering if it's the defected 8600M at work.

the only problem with putting it into laptop were mounting screws, their heads were too small for card wholes on PCB and they were getting through it and in result they didnt hold the card in its position, so for now i had to stick over those screws with tape and make their heads wider in order to install card firmly, oh and the card had sticked black plate, so before installation i took it off

i was also struggling with drivers, the originall nvidia.com driver did not able to detect GPU, so i downloaded other version from laptopvideo2go.com, but it didnt solve the problem, after installing the most updated drivers (258.90 i think), they worked, but laptop was catching couple of sec's freezes in widnows in every 15 second, i tried many other versions which worked, but i had 4k pts in 3dmark 06 so afterall they didnt work properly, and finally ive got a 257.37 drivers (asus brand i think) also from laptopvideo2go and the card works just fine now, but there is problem bcoz i cant find OC option anywhere, ill try rivatuner or other soft and ill post again with oc results

ps. sry for my english :D

i have also problem with oc, using nvidia performance 6.0.5 (riva tuner doesnt change clocks at all), i cant find and change profiles (2d/3d) details, i can only generally set clocks, and when im oc-ing it, my clocks in the desktop are theoritically set, but while booting up a game, card changes itself profile to 3D with its stock clocks, and after, to 2D stock clocks at the desktop

any ideas what to do? maybe nibitor? but id really love to check how far can i go with this card in oc... and with bios editing it will be much of time

could you give a link for this user since it is not possible to search by user on e-bay?
What does it say on your chip? g96-650-C1? And blue card with "Asus" name on it?

I also want to buy this card for this 5920g, but have found only 2 users, who confirmed it compatible.

hey, theres only one 9650m gt ddr2 asus model, that on the blue PCB, every card has chip you mentioned - C1, in my opinion you can buy it and im sure it will work wit 5920g

another thing - i bought a two 9600m gs ddr3 cards, vg.9pg06.006 - one guy on the polish forum quoted another guy from ACER's customers service who wrote that card vg.9pg06.006 is compatible with 5920g and its the most powerfull card you can get for that acer

ive found confirmation also on couple of sites who provide parts for acer's, and in their catalogues there was that card as a card for a 5920g

unfortunately, both cards dont want to work with my acer

Does your acer give any errors or something? I placed an 9650m gt in my lappy, and had to go to safe mode and delete the old vga drivers before It would work!
