Very often, when my 5920G boots, it changes from the native 1280x800 resolution to 1024x768. Because of that, the icons mess up and I have to change the resolution and then put the icons back at their place.

There is roughly 75% chance this will happen when my laptop boots.

Adding this with my other problems makes using this 5920G a frustrating experience!

This started happening months ago, when I reformated the laptop the problem had gone, and now it reappeared.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Have you tried to change your video drivers? How are you turning off your laptop - Start -> Shut Down, or pressing the power button until it switches off?

Is it happening only when you boot up your laptop?
Can you give us your startup programs?
    To do this follow:
Win Orb > type msconfig in Start Search box and press enter > press continue > Select Startup Tab > There you will see the startup programs that load when laptop boots up.
Can you list only the programs that are ticked?
If the name of the program is not full or specific, for example something like BkupTry or PLFSI, can you list the full command as well?
Also, do you know which programs you had installed before the problem appeared?
As triturbo said it will be a good idea to install the latest drivers from Nvidia (186.03).

Wow, you have so many programs running when you log into Windows.
For what I see, since you have the new Nvidia Drivers (Nvidia Vista or 7 drivers are the same), it might be the Steam program that changes the resolution to 1024x768 and then back again to 1280x800. Did the problem appear with Steam installation?
What sort of resolution are you playing the games?
Is this happening when you have played a game in a different resolution from your desktop?

Sometimes also when a game is played at lower resolution and then crashes, when you boot up again, Windows will load at the lower resolution and then normal resolution.

Another thing might be the compatibility settings for Steam.exe.
To fix that go to your Steam installation directory. C:\Program Files\Steam\ by default. Right-click on Steam.exe and select Properties > Compatibility and then uncheck the checkbox which reads "Run in 640x480 Screen Resolution".
Generally, Steam should not be set to run in compatibility mode.
If you asked me I would have unticked the following programs from the startup menu and restart the laptop to see if you have any problems:

    3. eDataSecurity
    4. Acer eAudio
    5. RAID Event Monitor
    6. HD Audio Control Panel
    7. Launch Manager
    9. WR_PopUp
    10. InstallUtil
    11. NVIDIA Compatible Windows7 Display driver, Version 186.03
    12. Quicktime
    13. iTunes
    15. Steam
    16. Windows Live Messenger
    17. Google Update
    18. OpenOffice org 3.0
    19. Acer Video Conference Manager
    20. Bluetooth Software
    21. Acer eAP Launch Tool
    22. Set Audio
    23. Set Audio

Almost all, yes. You don't need them in the startup, unless you are using any of them straight ahead.

How come and you don't have any AntiVirus soft?
If you don't have one, please download AVG or any other free AV soft or buy one, update it and run a full scan. Run a full scan with Windows Defender as well.

Why not? I'm not using either, just checking with online scanners from time to time, and everything is fine ;) I'm careful what sites I'm opening though :)

Anyway, I have precious stuff in my laptop and a lot of data is going around in our laptops in my work. I just I don't know how safe this attitude is.

    I'll uncheck most ones.

I'm playing all games in native resolution.

No, the problem did not appear when I installed Steam.

I have McAfee unregistered, but I'm fine with it, it has detected some trojans lately. :)

OK, I unchecked the ones I didn't need, and now the resolution didn't change. As I said there is roughly 75% chance this will happen, so I will try again.

Now the laptop loads much faster! I wonder why I didn't think of doing this, even though I knew how to do it. Thank you for your help. :)

Let us know if you have any problems again. My money are still on the Steam program that was causing the problem. You can make the laptop running even more fast than it is now, McMaster. There are many guides here in the Notebook guides subforum. Uninstalling programs that you don't use will also help. For example in my old laptop (5920G) I had 43 processes running, in my new one, I have 52 processes. CCleaner is also a good registry cleaner program that I use a lot. You can check the running processes in Task Manager window bottom left.

I don't know if it is going to be any help but there are a couple more things you can check.
If you go to Nvidia control panel and then choose 'advanced settings' (if you haven't already done that). On the left list go 'Display' and then click 'change flat panel scaling'. Then on the right panel on the second option choose 'Use Nvidia Scaling'. If you have choosen the use nvidia scaling with fixed aspect ratio that might have been the problem but to be honest I doubt that you have done that.
Another thing to check is you go ''msconfig'' ansd then on the tab ''boot'', see the boot options and every box should be unchecked, especially the base video box. Again I don't think you will have checked these but anyway. Then go in the advanced options and unchecked all the boxes.
Let me know if any of these helped.

I have disabled the nVidia Scaling, but the problem happened even when it was enabled.
