ok so iv had this problem for a few weeks now and nothing seems to be working. Everytime I play a game I get a bluescreen about display drivers and windows Problem Reports and Solutions says its a problem with ATI Graphics Drivers aswell.

I have tried various different ATI drivers and the driverhearn mod application but all them having failed I even run Acer eReovery and restored back to factory setting and STILL have the same problem but with a new error message, popping up occasionally while just genrally using the laptop, saying that the drivers stopped responding but managed to recover... something along those lines.

To my knoledge I have run out of things to try now so any suggestions will be MUCH appreciated, Thank you.

    -ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470

This was my 1st thought and I guess its still a possability but I its the same problem when I play the lest demanding games for 5 minutes but can play more demanding games for about an hour.

The first thing I did when this problem kept occuring was to check if the fan was blocked with dust... but it wasnt, its working fine. The only other thing I can try if it is overheating is one of them support things with fans underneath you sit the laptop on but I have heard they damadge the fan in the laptop in the end because its forcing too much air though the fan?

Hi, have you tried testing the memory - control panel, system and maintenance, admin tools, memory diagnostics. Also perform a chkdsk on your hard drive as well...

Can you run a temperature monitoring program...ideally one that would track and save results so you could see what your temp was at the time of bluescreening? There are tons of these programs out there.

Today I tested the memory and ran chkdsk but both came up with no problems.

I also used CPUID Hardware Monitor which gave these results:

    Idle
    CPU: 51C
    GPU: 55C
    HDD: 45C

    Playing a game
    CPU: 70C
    GPU: 79C
    HDD: 50C

I dont know much about what teperatures are too high but am I right in guessing that GPU shouldnt be 79C?

Is there any software that could monitor the fan speed?

For a 5920G your temps are OK, it can handle quite extreme temperatures without blue screens and problems at all, so it's not overheating. Have you putted new parts in there, new RAM for example? If you have two sticks of RAM try with just one at a time. If it's not that, I'm thinking about the GPU :(

triturbo's ideas are good. As for my 5920g, my GPU is overclocked and runs at about 88C after a while. 79 is definately OK. Try removing RAM or running a RAM test to see if thats the problem.

Hmm... just worked out that my fan isn't working at all anymore =|

Although I have worked out that if I change the power option to 'Power Saver' it keeps all the temps down to CPU:66C, GPU:61C and HDD:49C while playing the same game as before with no bluescreen or crashing at all... yet haha. Think ill test this theory a bit more before I mess with the RAM because all that does point to overheating

Do you know if the Power Save option actually affects the GPU speeds or does it just the CPU?

It does... A LOT. That's why it is called Power Saver, it reduces the clocks of the CPU and GPU in order to get a better battery life. As for the overheating, I'd mentioned it numerous times already, but my 5920G is rock solid even when the GPU is at 110ºC. I'm sure that I'm not the only one too, I've seen numerous 5920Gs with GPU temps around 105ºC :) But yeah it's definitely not recommended to torture your GPU like that, I did it once just for test purpose :D

So if you need new fan, you better take a look at eBay, I can't point you a fan, but I'm sure there are heat sinks for 5920G :)

Hi, you need to get that fan working or return it to Acer service as faulty, if it's still under warranty...

Got the fan working now. Still cant work out whats wrong with the laptop though.

What good will taking a stick of RAM out actually do to help? I have already run the ram test and it came up with no problems. Do I just take a stick out, turn on, turn off, put it back in, or what?

Yep, take one out, turn on, test, if everything is OK, or if it's like before, turn off, take it out, put the other one, turn on and do the same :)

BTW: Are you still using the Power saver profile?

Well, it also sounds like you may have a shoddy fan...If that fan is randomly stopping during gaming your asking for bluescreening...

Are you sure the fan is working consistently while you are gaming?

You could try overriding your fan so it always works at 100% using RivaTuner, this is pretty easy although I dont have the program on this PC at the moment. This might help you test if it works.
