    Need help pls.
New member with limited tech knowledge(Have upgraded my desktop & solved a few small software issues)

My daughter decided to shut down her laptop whilst Windows Update was running!

Now it attempts to boot but goes straight to Safe Mode screen.Assume files crucial to boot-up have been deleted :(

Have tried safe mode/with command prompt/Networking/last known good config/normally.All result in 'blue screen' mess STOP 0x0000006B(0xC0000034 0x000002 0x00000 0x00000 0x00000).

It just loops constantly to 'blue screen'.

Will not read optical drive so can't boot from there with Windows XP disc to try repair. Can access BIOS but can't see what I can do from there.

At a loss as to what else to try so wd appreciate any help/suggestions

    Welcome to NBR

With so limited options I hope you still have your recovery partition intact.

You can try to make a Windows XP bootable USB stick and boot from it(assuming that your laptop BIOS support booting from USB devices) and try to repair the installation. A tutorial about how to make that stick can be found here:
    http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-22_11-5928902.html

The other way is, assuming that you have your recovery partition intact, to restore to factory defaults. On boot just press Alt+F10 and following the repair "wizard". Keep in mind that the recovery process should purge all files from the C:\ drive. If you have other partition(s) - D:\, E:\ etc - don't worry as the recovery process won't affect it(them).
