My acer laptop was going very slow and laggy so i decided to install my mates Windows Vista Ultimate disc and overwrite my hard drives for a clean installation, however once this was done it loaded up fine and onto the desktop, Then it automatically shut down and when i next tried to reboot it comes up with this error message

- Downloaded and created a bootable windows vista recovery cd 32 bit which also wudnt even boot on start up
Have went and emailed acer there as my notebook is still under warranty, wasn't sure how long they take to reply so thought i would come onto here for some advice
Thanks and hope someone can help.

had just the same,..had it for one week and i got error 17,...took it back to pc world and they exchanged it,nothing you can do.
-
vista 2.1.12 is priate copy boot load
load a legal os and it no problem -
is it? i got it from my mate he didnt say it was ilegal or legal, ohwell ill just have to phone up acer then
unless anybody knows a way around this, i have had the notebook since April, do you think i could just take it back up to PC World? -
also if u r saying this aint working because of a pirate copy, it has worked fine on my pc?
-
okay does laptop have coa on bottom of vista it most like priated that what vista load does it it mess with boot to fake machine type to acvated windows that shound,nt be on it
do you have vista disk with it?
what is the coa on bottom laptop ?
be the model specs that laptop wound have not came with vista ultmated basic maybe check bottom they be coa if legal i can tell you it not
wound have came with one of the 3 os listed below ?
I wound,nt phone acer they go tell you same
Windows Vista® Home Premium
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic
Genuine Windows Vista® Starter
and quick google of vista load will tell you cracked copy -
It came with vista home basic preinstalled on it and i did not get any disc with it hence the reason i borrowed my mates as he said it would work, It has a vista basic ceritficaye on it.
what do you recommend i do now ? i am totally puzzled with this i even tried the Acer recovery console which i couldn't get to work as i overwrited all the data, also for some reason it wont let me enter the BIOS menu when i press F 12. cheers for any help, i really dont have a clue with computers... -
well you cound phone acer and order set of recovery disk for your model
or you need to find vista disk any one pretty much do expect the hacked oem one
and just reload it useing you vista disc and you key on laptop
when you hit f12 you try to acess boot menu
the recovery partion is alt f11 at boot if still they -
-
F2 to enter bios. It even says that on the bottom of the Acer splash screen when you are booting up. Did you specifically delete the PQSERVICE partition when you tried to wipe the drive?
-
cheers for that link dude, my acer is still under warranty though so surely i shouldn't have to pay for it?
-
Yes you will.
-
aye F2 is what i meant, it isnt working i am even holdin F2 down, i didnt delete any partions alli know is i installed vista over the data parition my other parition just has photos on it that is all -
You probably still have the recovery partition then. You just overwrote your MBR with a standard Vista one which broke the recovery mechanism. Didn't you burn your recovery disks when you first started using the computer? Then you could just use them to recover with.
-
No thats the problem i didnt burn the recovery file as i didnt even know about it until now, might be easier just handing it into a local pc shop!
-
You could fix it if you can get a basic install of vista loaded. Once you have a vista installation you can boot into, you can fix your MBR and re-enable the recovery partition, provided it is still there.
EDIT: Here are some instructions on how to repair the MBR. http://ezinearticles.com/?How-to-Repair-the-Acer-D2D-Recovery&id=794500 If you get it to work, you should be able to use the recovery partition to restore your system to factory default. Then you should be able to burn some recovery discs for backup. -
nothing is happening when im tryin to press ALT+F10 on start up
The solution : enable the function and try to press keys ALT+F10 during the starting of the computer. -
do vista boot disk or and startup disk?
you can use to set partion active? -
none of my discs are working though, i cant even enter the menu when pressin f2, the disc boots fine on the pc i am using just now though, this is so confusing
-
-
rigth finally got the f2 to work, i seemed to be holding it down instead of just pressing it immediately
do any of you guys know how to set it to boot automatically from the Vista disc
i was thinking boot priority but thought i would ask before i anything else up
EDIT: used F12 to boot from disc
thanks -

it shound be f12 to bring up boot menu
f2 shound be enter setup
right after hit power botton hit f2 it shound bring into bios then go make sure d2d is enable and press f12 for boot menu is turned
see how you can start the vista setup do repair computer option before you get go to run setup
then you can get command prompt
you can run diskpart to make recovery partion active
at startup repair do command prompt
run diskpart
do sel disk 0
then do list part
thye be one called esia
do sel part the number partion
type active to set it bootable reboot it shound go into acer ercovery if partion is not damaged -
aye ive got it all up but cant get the code i found for command prompt to work so actually just gonna buy the acer aspire 5315 recovery disc, will this definitely solve my problem? will it just restore the ACER software and windows basic

bootrec.exe /fixmbr
x:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt60 all /force
del C:\boot\bcd
bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd -
Those won't recover the Acer MBR. You would need to use the instructions in the link I posted earlier to recover the Acer MBR. 3 more posts and I can send you a PM.
-
dude i just reninstalled with the disc i used before and then went done step two off this link
www.neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Recovering+the+Vista+Bootloader+from+the+DVD
and the laptop is working fine now -
All right. If you want to repair your recovery partition so you can use the ALT+F10 recovery option, send me a PM after you have 15 posts here.
