I bought a acer aspire 2 days ago and in setting it up for the wife i noticed that it doesnt come with java installed. So i installed it java so she can play pogo games mainly yahtzee party.
This laptop allows you to install java but wont allow it to play. on a friends advice i went to runescape and it wouldnt play either even if i force java in internet explorer 9.

When i contacted acer they said i had to pay for support as they only garantee it will work the way it left the factory they offer no software support at all you have to pay thru justaskacer. Has anyone ever found a fix to this problem?

So, basically IE won't enable Java? In that case, it is not your ACER laptop, but your OS settings OR IE's fault.

So you think ACER is blocking Java out? That's some funny. I would actually contact Java/Oracle. I have never had any problem with Java on my ACER.

    Why not try another browser?

And, yes, ACER support is useless, but then again, I'd never expect them to help out with my software issue. That's something you install on your own machine, and responsibility is yours. That's the end of the story.

Ok i know how to fixit as a friend has he used his windows 7 disk but no it wont work on chrome or firefox. When i deleted ie9 and opened windows update to download ie9 it wouldnt install so i manually went and downloaded the install. Then when i went to install it i got a message that install failed and please use acer update to install it. I admit is a wierd problem but not just for my wife but her friend who has an acer wanted me to get it to install too. I actually had it working on hers for about 2 days then netframework 4 update installed and no matter what i change it wont open java again.

I do use windows 7 oem disk in building desktops so i have the oem disk and can format it but short of that was looking for an easier answer. In all my searching i have found others with the problem but no answers and i thoght since this was a laptop forum someone might have heard of it or had a newer acer and could see if it did the same thing. I have 11 more days so no hurry. Thank you for your replies though.

We have a dedicated team called “Answers By” who could assist you with this issue. It is a “Pay for support” group, so there would be a nominal fee, if they were to help. If you would like I can transfer you over to that group.
Anoop_GWSI348: Your chat will be transferred to a free session and they will let you know the charge and the available options. From acer support. to me is a great way to sell a cheap laptop then make money after the sale.

With all due respect- Acer is selling a notebook and is responsible for fixing its hardware not for helping you install or configure third party software.
So yeah- they are selling you cheaper notebook because they can save money on phone support people and they never update drivers on their support site (unless there are critical bugs).

The only thing i find funny about it is i went into staple and they tried a hp, compaq, toshiba, leveno, dell and all of them loaded it and played but no matter what the tech guy did on 3 different model acers it wouldnt load yahtzee party. When i contacted acer they knew what the problem is but again 38.00 for them to tell you. So lets sell a crippled laptop then charge to fix it. Great scam going there. As to the replies of acer isnt responsible it is understandable but let me sell you a new car where the windows dont work then charge you to fix it does that seem right. After all it starts and runs installing windows relays or headlamp bulbs is something the customer has to do himself. So lets look at it this way if you are smart enough to know how to help fix the problem then reply but if your only smart enough to post isnt acers problem is a 3rd party software then dont bother. Then again a help forum is only as smart and as good as the people running it so far im not that impressed with the help here. Dog me all you want but i want real solutions and help not acer fanboys.

Java is platform independent, it will run as long as there is a JVM for it.
The problem is unfortunately either the "game" or you.

I have an Aspire S3 and have the same problem. I have been working with Technical Support Forum experts on this problem for several weeks now. I have concluded that all normal fixes for Java that work on other computers will not work on the Aspire model I have. I did the deep clean and elimination of remnant Java components and then the reinstall. Nothing works. I agree the $38 for fix is a ransom payment and in principle I will not pay it. However, there must be someone out there who coughed up the mulla and who has the fix. Can he/she please share it? Because right now the Aspire cheapo laptop is a biat anchor as far as java jre is concerned. It will install the java JDK and I can run and compile Java programs but the Java Runtime Environment will not work on this machine. without the secret "fix"....

Note: I just successfully installed the JRE and JDK on an Acer AL715 desktop and it all worked after just several minutes of work. So the problem is definitely with the laptop engineering. WE NEED THE FIX!
