While at the CeBIT Hannover Germany Expo yesterday I ran across this:

I'm not sure if it's just a European model of the Acer Ferrari, there were no Acer reps around to talk with, but it'd be way cool if Acer released the Aspire 3000 series with this chip as an option [ :D]

    >abaxter, I believe that's the new 3200, which will made its debut in USA sometime later this year!

^_^ man, it looks identical to mine -.-

    [ :)]

p.s. I wonder about the battery life on the 3200?

mine is about 2 and half hour.

OMG, that thing is awesome! And it has a 9700 Radeon in it! *Faints* If its later this year maybe I'll have enough funds to pick one up.

thanks for the info on the release kidd, i really don't know what the battery life would be on this. hopefully decent so you could take it out into the world to show off though! nice specs under the hood too though, such a tempting machine.

    Greg here.
well, looks like I'll be making another call to taiwan tonight.
Two other things, another forum was having gaming trouble with the 1712, they said the hard drive kept winding down while gaming or aplications, and the machine would pause while the drive powered back up. acer had to change the bios, the forum said acer disabled something called 's.m.a.r.t'. and two, someone here claimed nvidia did not directly support the acer nvidia video cards, nor did acer, and that he had to go to the site of another manufacturer utilizing and suporting nvidia cards to get the driver updated. Is this 'other brand' propaganda' being posted here or what? When I spoke to taiwan, the engineer said he was not aware if the 64 bit chips would be going in any time soon, that hyper threaders acted as duel, thus 64 bit processors, that any 64 bit programs will be reverse compatible with 32 bit systems, and that there are barely enough 64 bit prgrams on the market to warrent an amd 64 purchase. Then this pops up, and I left off with my supplier today that if he finds an acer 1712 at the original price he quoted me before his distributer ran out of stock, to order it, and my cell phone is not working!
Bottom line, I can't seem to decide whether to sweat this issue or not. even if they did pop a 64 in, it may not be till fall, and I need this thing by friday! I wonder if those in the cpu adaptor business can make an adaptor for the amd 64 to intel chipset like they did back during the pentium socket 5 and 7 era, or the 370 (730?) to slot 1 and 2 era (pII and II).
    oh, worry worry worrry.........
