    I would expect between $600-$700.

I believe all we know about the new 1820PT Tablet having an SU3500 Core2Solo
was derived from the original macles leak on October 7th.

However, Acer Australia made the 1820PT official with a press release
that specifically mentions an Intel Core Duo for the 1820PT
which would be the SU4100 for Australia, at least.

Photo is a working 1820PT at their press event in Sydney.
Its photo #5 if you take the link.

Further, Hexus says Intel has stopped making SU2700 & SU3500 Core2Solo
in favor of the SU2300, SU4100 and SU7300 CPUs.

Why would Acer put a dated CPU in its new ULV tablet?

A week ago on October 5th, Engadget leaked 24 nice quality
photos of a new Gateway EC18T Tablet.

Gateway is now part of Acer. And this tablet appears
to be a clone of the 1820PT with some minor variations.
    Time will tell.

The Australian price is expensive. So far the EC18t seems better to me seeing as it mentions C2D only and it has DDR3 ram only (don't want to go back to DDR2). BTW, this thing will weight 3.8lbs. Wonder how much battery life it will get, if the hinges will last, and if it will have the added grainy layer that many tablets have. And of course the US price!

    About the price:

Acer Australia states 1600 Aud for the 1820pt and 1100 Aud for the 1810T, so i would expect that the price would be around 40-50% more (750$/€) than the 1810T.

And according to an store in NZ it comes with an su7300.

Well as long as we can get the high-end dual-core I don't really care whether this is Acer or Gateway. I am most curious about how high this laptop will sit up considering that the hinger is different. I already have a 12" Fujistu T4220 and I definitely want something smaller than that. Hopefully I can see one of these tablets in person somewhere. If it is but finger and Wacom pen-based with multi-touch I will be really psyched. Looks promising.

For folk like me who have no tablet experience, System 7 has sophisticated
Touch technology built-in. Even for old applications.

Do we know if this will be multi-touch capable? Also, I assume we are talking about both an active and passive digitizer but I am wondering if this is a Wacom or not (could make it much more expensive).

I'm only learning about tablets, but just found this at NetBookChoice

"the 1820P will be multi-touch enabled (I’m guessing therefore a capacitive screen?)
The tablet mechanism does mean the 1820P is around 300g heavier than the ~1810T.
It will ship with Windows 7, so hopefully we should see a release by the end of the year."

Photo shows the 1820P folded back with pen.

Are there dimensions anywhere for the 1820P or for the Gateway. I know that this will weigh a bit more due to the screen hinge but I wonder about size. As I said before I am most concerned about how high this sits relative to the 1410/1810.

Any more news on this puppy? I want a press release just like the 1810T/TZ!!! Actually what I don't want to have happen is for Acer to get me to buy the 1810T/TZ and then announce this 1820P like a week later with a new dual-core processor. I may postpone my 1810 purchase until early November just to see what else they come out with (I can live with my 1410 until then).

I just realized that the GATEWAY EC18T has the dimensions and weight listed up on Engadget. They are: Dimensions and weight: 285 (W) 208.9 (D) 28.5/34.5 (H) mm (11.22 x 8.22 x 1.12/1.36 inches) 1.72 kg (3.79 lbs.)

This looks to be pretty close to the 1410 although it is a bit thicker and slightly deeper (well and also a bit heavier because of the hinge). I think the thickness is also because of the way the battery has to sit due to the hinge design. FYI, the 1410 is 11.22" x 8.03" x 0.87/1.18", 3.1 lbs.

Have you been able to compare the size of the tablet to the 1410/1810? It looks to be just a tad bigger but I wanted to see if you could give feedback on how big it "feels." Also, since you have pics of this, what processor was in the device and do you know if it will be available with a dual-core chip? If you played with it how was the touchscreen? How "snappy" did the system feel? Thanks.

The plot thickens. Liliputing has a posting pointing to a review of the "Packard Bell 1810TZ" which is the touchscreen version. Portable Gear.nl has some nice pics although I don't see much info on specs. There is also a nice video of the tablet in use. Enjoy.

    Wow!. Nice find!!!
Now we have some critical information.
"Like the 1810TZ, the Packard Bell Butterfly Touch has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display and runs Windows 7 Home Premium. It reprotedly has an 8 hour battery and should be available for 599 Euros on October 22nd."
Easy to see the HDMI connector, and that the battery sits within the body.

Use Google Translate Dutch to English, if necessary.

Humm.. not sure. But the Butterfly's frame looks a little different from the photos of the Acer Aspire 1810P and the Gateway EC18T tablets.

Acer has listed the 1820pt on their us-site and added a 1820ptz - without any hard facts on the processor used :)

It seems there will be a single-core (t) and a duel-core (tz) version just like in case of the 1810t(z)

    1820PTZ has an SU4100
    1820PT has an SU7300.

Wow Acer is still packing in the bloatware, all the same crap that came on my 3810t is still there with Windows 7. Nice to see it uses DDR3 like the Gateway Ec18t. So only the non tablet models don't use DDR3 ram.

    These links should work:

    1820pt : "Intel Core 2 Duo"

    1820ptz : Intel Dual core

Well, if this means that the pt has a su7300 and the ptz an su4100 - as Jayayess1190 stated - then i don't understand the naming policy of Acer

The 1810t has a su3500 (core solo) and the 1810tz a su4100 (core duo), hence the "tz" is better than the "t". But in case of the 1820 its the other way around ??

An interesting info from the spec lists from the links posted above:

There seems to exist a HD (1366*768) and a SD (1024*600) Version of the 1820.

If this uses DDR3 that would be a nice spec bump. Where are the specs listed? I am curious to know what speed RAM will work in this beauty.

    Those links work. Thanks.

BTW, the numbering conventions seems to be a bit different in the US. If I remember correctly (couldn't find it in the thread) the 1810T is the SU7300 and the 1810TZ is the SU4100. So, this would be consistent with the numbering scheme for the 1820 in the US.

However, this is DARN confusing since the 1810TZ has a different chipset elsewhere. I guess this continues the confusing numbering schemes with the 1410 (US - SU3500) vs 1810T (other places SU2300 or other chips) with the 1810T sometimes getting different processors in different countries. Confused yet?

Oh yeah and it looks like the DDR is up to a max of 1066 Mhz (although I'm guessing higher COULD work) and a max of 8 GB so this system can accomodate 4 GB DIMMs according to the listed specs. I wonder if there is even a reason to put 8 GB in this machine. Considering how expensive the 4 GB chips still are I can't think of a good reason and will probably stick with 4 GB total. NOW all we need to know is the price.

Well it looks like the new 1810T and 1810TZ are up for pre-order on Amazon. I wonder how long it will take before Acer "officially" announces the 1820 to the US market. Any bets on November? I am personally in a "wait and see" mode right now and will hang onto my 1410 for now.

Please stop using the net prefix. Since it contains the underpowered meaning.
This full fleged tablet pc has simillar specs to the 2500$ dell xt2 tablet. If you can also call that a net anything then go ahead.
IMO net anything is only good enough for webbrowsing.
This thing is my( student) dream come true, I can start writing notes for anything on it, math for instance in onenote. Never again shall I be plagued by the mountain of paper notes that are ( currently) under my bed.

Tablet Pc + Multitouch+good enough specs for hd movies and hd youtube+8 hour battery life+ under 900$ price =WIN for students.

PS did anybody find out if the pen has pressure sensitivity ( it makes handwriting pretty, and you can express yourself in photoshop).

Since it has multitouch my guess is it can either be wacom or n-trig and both have pressure sensitivity, But who knows what shabby company acer is relying on to save cash. It might simply be a pen that mimics finger contact and simply be a peace of plastic.

Nice find at an Italian website!
The best photos yet. Could be Acer's official marketing photos.

BTW, I mentioned Italian because 1820P tablet information
is now available at Acer's European website.
But no longer available at Acer's USA website.

Tablets could be headed for a European introduction.

A German site ( Heise.de) posted that the 1820pt will be released in December and the price will range from 600-800€ depending on the used processor. The cheapest configuration will have a Celeron processor.

How does it compare in performance to the 1810tz? Should be the same, right? Also, is it just me or does the touch screen look a bit unresponsive/laggy in the videos?

Yes it is just you, It's actually very great compared to what it was 1 year ago, look at some old video reviews of hp tx2z's touch interface and you'll get it.
It has the same hardware so performance should be the same, depending on what the touchscreen and digitizer are you will see impact on battery life, in wich case hope for ntrig digitizer over the wacom one.

Arg, I can't find information about that stylus pen.

It is definitely better than the tx2z, but looking at the videos I'm still seeing a slight lag when he moves around the photos and sometimes he has to touch the screen twice to get it to react. Maybe it's a matter of getting used to.

All we can do is wait for more info.

I just had another look at it and honestly there is no lag, it's a matter of getting used two. Those guys aren't used to a capacitive touchscreen like the iphone it seems.

When the guy pushes the keyboard buttons u can see it's instant. The first click that failed was because he probably hit it with his nail since it's the edge of the screen, same as when he dragged the keyboard.
As for when he was moving the window, it's just like a trackpad on a notebook, it takes a bit of extra movement to register it( meaning it will allways go where you want it to go, and the faster you move it the less lag you will see). So don't worry about the touch. All we need to worry are 2 things:
If it only registers 2 points meaning we wont be able to use new apps that come in the future that use more than 2 fingers( not a deal breaker imo)
And if that damn Pen has pressure sensitivity or not( deal breaker for 50% of the people interested in tablets)

Couple of questions to those who know more about these:

    1. Does this have accelerator like iphone ?
    2. If not, can it be switched into portrait mode with some keystroke so it can be used as an ebook reader ?
    3. When is this expected to be released in US ?

    Thanks for the replies
