    Hey all,
Have a old desktop (Duron700mhz) that i was looking to update.Worked out my budget to be about AU$1000-$1500 (without monitor). However then i thought of notebooks.A friend bought a Acer Ferrari 4002 WLMi a few weeks ago and got me to thinking and eventually looking at laptops.I guess my price range is about AU$1500- $2800 or so.Read reviews and peoples posts on various ones.Meant to be a desktop replacement - sometimes games but want notebook to last a few years. Boiled down to Dell Inspiron 9300 up to about $2000(not from Dell, some auction place sells Dell stuff right from manufacturers), Acer 1694 WLMi between $2299 - $2499 and Acer Ferrari 4002 WLMi between $2783- $2978.Is it easy to upgrade HD & memory if need to later down the track by the way?.What do u guys think?.

    thanks
    Nigel

Without a doubt, the Ferrari, if your pockets are not going to be hurting afterwards. ;)

I would never buy a laptop based on the amount of RAM it has or the hard drive capacity, because as zazonz said, they are upgradeable.

I'd say go with the Ferrari - awesome notebook!! :acer:

I was going to order the 4002, but the ONLY thing that kept me from it was the LCD... I preferred the resolution of the 4005 instead, and went with that one...

I got the 1694, not the Ferrari, but my primary considerations there were a slight preference for the Pentium M, a stronger desire for a CrystalBrite screen, not really wanting the Ferrari styling! The Ferrari is a slightly better specced in areas like DVI-out and a swappable optical drive (although I don't know what else you might put in), but equally you will pay more. The 1694, as I mentioned, certainly can have a glossy screen (I don't know whether it's on all models) - whether this is a good or bad thing depends on personal preference.
