I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installed with the latest Intel drivers and speedstep doesn't seem to work, cpuz always show 1.2 GHz with 1.000 Vcore. I've tried both Balance and Power Saver profiles.

Yeah, it works that way... The SU3500, SU7300 and SU9x00 cpus support dinamic FSB switch, that means they can lower the FSB speed to get lower CPU speeds (or something "close" to that). The cheaper SU2300 and SU4100 don't support that and 1,2GHz is the lower speed you get.

I didn't think you could get much lower than 1.2GHz anyways.

How is the DUAL-core SU2300 "cheaper" than the SINGLE-core SU3500?

Which is the stronger processor, in your opinion?

I don't really know which is cheaper. According to the Intel website the SU9400 and the SU3500 are the same price, which I think is false: if it was, I think everybody would have a SU9400 and the SU3500 wouldn't even exist! Don't trust the Intel website, at least price wise. That said, why the SU2300 is cheaper? I don't know..

As for going lower than 1,2GHz, yes, it's possible: the SU3500, SU7300 and SU9x00 cpus will go as low as 800Mhz and 0x8750 V, which should save some power. In real live I don't know if you actually would get higher battery runtime out of the SU7300 comparing to the SU4100.

Last but no least: Single core 1,4GHz Vs Dual core 1,2GHz: my choice would be SU2300. I think most of us always multitask, so having two cores is much nicer than a 200Mhz faster CPU. Also, the SU2300 features Virtualization Technology, nice eh? Downside on the SU2300? It's only present in the Acer 1410, which has a smaller battery than the Acer 1810T(Z), but of course not everybody needs the bigger battery. I like having it, however I don't really need it ;)

It depends. SU3500 has more L2 cache (3M vs 1M) compared with the SU2300, and note that both have virtualization technology. Expect single-threaded code to be about 15-30% faster on the SU3500 (or dramatically more for some edge-case code that needs the extra L2, but you will most likely never see it). Expect multi-threaded code or multitasking to be up to 70% faster on the SU2300.

Note that many games, particularly older ones that you're likely to play on the Intel GMA X4500, are single threaded. So the SU3500 is better there. Some newer games, multitasking, certain media encoding/decoding tasks, and some other applications will do better on the SU2300.

Don't worry too much about P-states (SpeedStep / clock scaling). Most of the power reduction comes from C-states, which work whenever the CPU is idle. The only time that P-states really help you out is if you're sitting at 100% CPU and you force a low P-state (e.g. by selecting 'power saver' in Vista/7), and then you're just trading worse performance for better battery life.

So if one doesn't have one of these yet, is it worth it to hold out for the SU2300 to be available again? There are quite a few SU3500 units on ebay with BCB of 20% making them close to $300

I think that the consensus is yes, get the dual core if you can.

Amazon had them for $399, but now they are listed for over $500. Thankfully I placed my order this weekend and got it for $399!!!

Fry's also has them for $399.

I'd get it. I'm really, really impressed with the speed and power of this 1410 with the dual core SU2300. All machines are moving to multiple cores, so it provides more future-proofing.

    ARG!

I can't find the stupid things anywhere. Fry's has it, but I get hit with CA sales tax, making it 440 or so. I can easily get a SU3500 model for $290.

I've got a T9400 T500 Lenovo, not sure how much heavy processing I'm gonna use this for. I'm just afraid even with Flash 10.1 I wont be able to use hulu and YouTube HD, since one review said the dual handled it better..

Don't forget the $16 CA e-recycle tax too! You pay that on anything with a display; TVs, laptops, computer monitors, etc. Isn't communism grand?

Keep a VERY close eye on Amazon as their prices fluctuate VERY frequently.

But I dunno....if you can get one with the 3500 for $290, that's pretty darn sweet. How are you coming by that deal??

If you look on the Aspire One User forum http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/ there are reports that people are getting the 751 to play HD with flash 10.1 - and remember the 751 runs an Atom!

There are a few sellers on ebay for ~375 free shipping and outside of CA. 20% off of that is 300. I have about 8 bucks in ebay bucks in my account too, so thats ~292.

interesting. i have the same computer and cpuz shows me 0,975 vcore. does not change either. i just have to live with it, altough i am not really happy with my 4 hours battery time.

just install 1810tray to stop the fan from permanently blowing while on AC.

I'm sure you did your homework, but it seems to me that the manufacturer probably had a good reason for keeping the fan on in these units. Isn't there a chance you will overheat your CPU?
