    Hi,

I am posting this to hopefully receive help in upgrading my Acer 8930G. I am looking to find answers to:
    1) Is it worth it to upgrade?
    2) I have a dual core now, is the best upgrade the x9100?
    3) Would this work for the x9100?
    4) What GPU would work as an upgrade? I have an 9600M now.
    5) I have never flashed my BIOS, would it be necessary if I upgraded? even if i didn't?
    6) I read that 6 GB RAM can be read by the motherboard, is this true?

I am sorry if all these questions have been answered before, but I couldn't find them and the 8930G owners thread is a jumbled mess of questions. Thanks for any possible advice.

First thing first, Hello and welcome to NBR! :)

For the CPU, I would not go with QS or ES. So, I would take this; New Intel CORE2 X9100 Mobile Processor OEM 3.06Ghz CPU | eBay

What CPU do you got now by the way?

Lastest oficiall BIOS is always great to have.

If you have 32-bit OS, only 3.7GB can be readed, if you have 64-bit OS, Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit can read up to 128GB of RAM.

However, this is when your motherboard comes in, I have never heard a max support of 6GB RAM, it would either be 4 or 8GB. What do you got now? And, as for HP said my laptop, max 2 GB, I've used that laptop almost 2 years with 4GB without any issue, so it is really a test out thing, or take a look at what Intel states about your Chipset. What Chipset do you got?

i have a P8600 right now, and Windows Ultimate 64 bit. My Chipset right now is the PM45. Is there a way to find the motherboard using CPUz? or do I have to actually look at the motherboard itself? I assume the x9100 you suggested is a core2extreme that is overclockable. Also, i have seen some people on the forum with different GPU's that they installed themselves i think the best was the Nvidia 250M, would this work/ how would I find out if it would be compatable? Thanks for the help, looking forward for your answers

I also have a PM45 chipset. So yes, your laptop does support 8GB RAM. The X9100 I linked to is a 44W OEM CPU. While that one you linked to is a ES with unlocked multiplier.

I've tried a QX9300 on my system, ES, it didn't work. So, there is a Quad limitation, but I don't know if it does apply for your model. A X9100 have never been tried on 5739G, so I can't speak out on that.

For the GPU, you must find out what MXM type your laptop is. Here is the therad about GPUs.

I have no information for your model, this is just what I can say out of what I know about PM45 chipset and earlier try and findings with a ACER laptop..

Feel free to ask if there still is anything you wonder about.

My model is the Acer 8930G, so it is an MXM 3. Thanks for all your help. I guess all i need is a recommendation on a GPU with my MXM 3 model.

Yes. But if'd I were you, I would make sure the X9100 sellers accept return, so in case it does not work, you'll be able to get your money back. Let me know how it turns out for you, as I'm intrested if ACER have blocked X9100 away as Quad Core CPUs.

Good luck and looking forward to hear from you!

I don't think so actually, there is a BIOS thing here. Your card either needs to be with BIOS or without a BIOS chipt. Can't recall right now, you better posting in the MXM therad I linked above to get it confirmed.
