I've had my Acer Aspire 8930G for about 4 months now, bought it brand new for around £800.

I've never really tried playing Blu Rays on it, infact I've not even watched one all the way through, I've only tested 2 when I first bought the laptop.

I've just tried to watch a brand new genuine blu ray film, but the acer arcade constantly stops working and the blu ray doesn't load up to play the film (it loads the adverts prior to the film but not the actual film) acer arcade asks to check for soultions to the problem but doesn't bring any up when I click get solutions.

If I don't get that error message I get a message along the lines of an unexpected error occured, please reboot your machine.

The blu ray is brand new, scratch free and plays fine on other blu ray players.

on the acer arcade menu I've gone to settings and clicked live update, it says connecting and then a message comes up saying no update is available, so I assume it's upto date although I don't recall updating it three times?

The version I'm using is: 2.1.6010
    Audio Decoder: 6channel

Is the the right and latest version for Vista?

Whats the problem? Other blu rays won't play either and they take forever to load up until the point, acer arcade has stopped working pops up?

    Please help.

    Thanks.

    Anyone?

    It's acer arcade deluxe.

Really poor from acer, £800 for a laptop and it won't play blu rays!! :(

I've tried updating the arcade but no update is available comes up.

I have the same laptop and had the same problem. I ended up using Arcsofts total media works a treat. Acer arcade deluxe is based on powerdvd. I had the popup to update it and after wouldn't play any blu rays so uninstalled it and re-installed from e-recovery and it worked again but lost 6 channel option in settings.

Just installed a trial version of Arcsofts total media and it booted the blu ray up no problem.

Stupid acer arcade crap is the problem.

Had this laptop 4 months, paid £800 for it, looked after it as well as any body can look after a laptop yet i've had no end of problems with it!!!

Not impressed with Acer, will never buy again!!!

Hi, Arcade and blu-ray works fine on both my 8930 and my 5920, I assume you have installed all the updates as there are three to the vista version. If you've been having other problems then it possibly might be an issue associated to them..

I've deleted Arcsoft total media as I want to get Acer Arcade working again as I much prefer it.

    Help still needed :)

    Thanks.

Nevermind I'm done with the acer arcade.

It really is useless, in all fairness, I shouldn't have to post a thread on why is my acer arcade crashing and not playing blu rays considering how old the laptop is and the price.

I've checked for updates, it tells me no updates are available, it doesn't say if mine is upto date etc. Totally useless. Won't even try to use it again.

    -1 to acer arcade.

Hi, you need to give us more time to reply Tecky8, as this forum is voluntary we have other lives you know :)
As far as the Arcade updates are concerned, it's just sunk in to me you are using the 8930g, sorry my bad, there aren't any updates to that version, just to the one that's installed on the 5920g.
Have you tried uninstalling Arcade then re-installing it, which gfx card drivers are you using for which card?

That is the latest version I can get as well but this version won't play anything. I had the same problem as you so uninstalled. If you re-install from erecovery button it will work again just don't apply updates but I lost 6 channel option it now only has stereo 2 speakers.

    Thanks for the replies.

I haven't tried uninstalling acer arcade as I wasn't 100% sure how to re-install it.

The laptop is running a NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS 512 MB graphics card, which is what it come with and yes the laptop is a 8930G model.

atmadden, sorry to hear you've had the same problems and thanks for the advice but I don't want to lose the 6 channel option and nor should I have too.

    :)

Hi, it is on the application/drivers disc you may have created, or go to control panel/mobilePC/windows mobility centre...
