Looking for a mid powered gaming laptop. 5650 graphics card has been recommended to me. Acer 5553G is currently a bid only, finishes in 19 hours and current bid is £245. Not sure how much it's likely to end up at, any idea? It's pretty high spec. Would £500 be too much for it to go at? Would be too much for me, but I'd bid something less just before it ends. Which would you recommend out of these?

So anyway, I'm now currently the highest bidder on the 5553G and I'll know the outcome in 6 hours. I'm sure you're all interested, what with this being an acer specific forum. My first thread never got any replies either.

It's the matter of what you prefer, not what's better.
I'd rather have 5553G as I always game in native resolution and 1366x768 will give you higher fps than 1600x900 given that both use the same card.
Besides 15" is more comfortable for me.
    Your millage may vary.

Yeah, I agree with you. And thanks for your advice.
I've been outbid btw. Not that I can't comfortably outbid him, but I'm still getting mixed responses on notebookreview sub forums and other forums. Some say best staying away from acer, particularly second hand/refurbs, while others say there's nothing wrong with them. And one person said the 5553G is no good for gaming. And now I've started looking at dell vostro 3550's with HD6630 gfx cards. So confused what to buy now.

I can tell you what I'd buy- HP Pavilion dv6-6150ew

    Core i5-2410M/ 4GB RAM/ 500GB 7200rpm HDD/ Blu-ray ROM and on top of that AMD HD 6770 with 2GB GDDR5.

Where I live it's also covered by 3 year warranty and your get an USB TV tuner for free. Where I live (continental Europe) it's roughly £625 including VAT.

I've been told that this model is not (yet) available in the UK but I'd wait for it if I were you- everything about it is better- CPU, GPU, HDD, warranty- the lot.

Sounds exceptionally good. But, it will be waaay out of my price range. I'm already over budget from where I started. :(

    I just got a reply from the seller of a dell vostro 3550/i5 2.3GHz/HD6630M/320GB HDD/8GB ram/

His listing ended, was 'buy it now' for £460. I messaged him and he's replied that he has an offer of £420 including delivery, unless I can top it by this evening.

I was about to offer £420, but now I've found something else which might be better.

A brand new Acer Aspire 5750G i5 15.6" 500GB HDD 4GB Ram HDMI for £474.99 or best offer.
    Intel Core i5-2410M
    15.6" LED Screen
Nvidia GT 540M Graphics 1GB Vram
    4GB DDR3 Ram
    DVD Super Multi Drive
    Wireless B/G/N
    1.3 MP Webcam
    Built in Card Reader

I'm reliably told the 57xx series is better built. Also, I'd get full warranty with it being new. So, with that 540M gfx and everything else, would I be mad to buy the vostro over the 5750G and would you recommend I just make a best offer on the 5750G?

According to a review made by notebookcheck Acer 5750G has a poor cooling system and it's also affected by throttling issues so I'd steer clear of it.

Wow, really? So I should go for the vostro instead? The guy might have sold it, I don't know, I need to offer him money and see.

If the Asus K53TA shows up near you it's a steal. It was going for $450USD and has an A6 quad core APU and AMD 6650 GPU. Easily overclockable to 2.2GHz and scores in the mid 7000 on 3dMark06. Solid little cheap laptop. They're all sold out right now in the US though.

Two Dell Vostro 3550 i5's are being re-listed. I'm going to have one of them I think, already made provisional offers to both.

Yep, I know only too well. Been there, got the T-Shirt! :p See my thread:
