    Hey there,

I think this has been asked before but I searched for it to no avail. I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks 720p just isn't enough.. I've been shopping for a new LCD panel for my 6920G, but was wondering a few things:

    Brief background on my box:
    T5750, 4GB, BD (Optiarc), PM965, 9500M GS, 1366x768.

    Ideal:
    T9300, 4GB, BD (Optiarc), PM965, 9600M GT, 1920x1080.

I'm going to start with the LCD panel first. The benefit from CPU upgrades seems nominal, and GPU upgrades seem expensive and a PITA.

    a) Is there a guide/howto regarding how to change panels yet?
    b) Is there any issues going from 1366x768 -> 1920x1080? Is it even possible?
    c) I can't seem to find reliable places that sell the SAMSUNG, is a place like this reputable: http://www.screencountry.com/index.php?section=products&model=ASPIRE 6920G&brand=Acer&size= ??

    Thanks,
    Elsdon

No takers? Looking for some advice before I jump into the deep end, buy an LCD screen and break my laptop in the process..

I would say go for the CPU first. That's what I and many other people here in the forum have done. Believe me the difference between the T9300 and T5750 is quite significant. Of course the T9300 is expensive if you buy it retail, but you will find bargain prices on ebay. The graphic card might not be possible. Some 6920G users have succeeded but some others haven't. Choosing an ATI 4650 DDR2 might be a more viable option. But overall, let's say that the graphic card is working and compatible, replacing it is much easier for many laptops than replacing the CPU. At least in my laptop that's the situation.

    a) There are plenty of 'Replacing LCD' generic guides on the internet you should have any difficulties with the 6920G. The reason you won't find a guide here is because nobody has done it as far as I am aware.
    b) The upgrade should be possible since the model you have, has been produced with that LCD resolution. I would like also to do the LCD upgrade but the price is prohibitive for me yet.
    c) The site looks normal to me so I think you can go ahead. Look in the internet for shoppers review. They sound very helpful as well

I would suggest you to buy another Laptop.
    Why?
I know the 1st one, you're going to change the Screen.
But you're going to change the CPU and GPU next.
    Changing plenty of things though.
With the money you plan to spend of changing/upgrading. You can have a better laptop already.
This statement might be false. You're not necessary to follow it. Just a piece of suggestion.

    Hi there,

    Thanks for your replies!

For me it's not so much about the price.. I kind of like to play around with the laptop. Also, the small incremental costs here and there are easier to validate with myself than the big one-off ones.

Mainly, what I am focused on isn't so much the speed, as it is the screen resolution. The desktop is simply too small as I'm used to larger resolutions. The laptops I'm coming from are like.. the 1650x or.. 1920x. in 15.4" formats.. so in comparison, this one is tiny.

Aslong as it's possible, I think I'll go ahead with it first. It's like $200CAD/USD for the WUXGA panel, a cost I think is worth it.

If you go ahead, let us know how it went. There are a few people here that they want to do the same (including myself). Darksilver has a point but I understand your point of view (I am of the same philosophy as you), so good luck with the upgrade and hopefully everything will go smoothly.

    Hey there,

Just an update on the situation. I was thinking about it more, and it seems like before I buy the LCD panel.. I'll have to check out a few things. Can somebody with a 6920G full HD reply to us with your FL inverter and how many pins your connection is? I don't know if my model 6920G will have the same CCFL converter as yours does, seeing as our panel is only 1366x768 and yours is 1920x1080. I might have to buy a new inverter as well.

    Thanks,
    Elsdon

Just for you to know, from the 6930G part's list, there is only one type of inverter board for both screens. I suspect, it will be the same for the 6920g as they share the same LCD.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it. http://www.zandparts.com/acer/index.php?cPath=40886_40887_40929_41786_49501
Looks to be only one.. Neat. I think I should be gold then. Going to order the LCD panel and attempt to upgrade myself. Any idea where I can *cough* get a service *cough* uh.. you know.. AHEM.

You're not getting any links in-topic, pally.
Get enough posts to enable Private Messages, or allow emails from other members, and maybe someone would be nice enough to help.

Screen is delivered now. I'm about to embark on this journey. I feel like I don't have nearly enough information, haha. I will figure it out as I go, I suppose.

Update: Ok. After about 3-4 hours I managed to dismantle the entire thing. It took some time to work the bezel off and get in there, there's lots of wires underneath the power button. I had to deal with a reallly tight screw, ended up stripping it a bit but all and all, it was a pretty painful process.

End result, 1080p screen (1920x1080) booted up ok into BIOS/post, got into Windows 7 and everything.. But once inside of windows 7, the colour was a bit screwed up. (Red tinge to everything) and at 1920 it didn't look like native res (text was skewed?). I think the LCM cable I'm using has to be replaced as well, not just the panel. I've removed the new screen and put back in my old one (lol@extra screws everywhere!?) for now, going to look at trying to locate an LCM cable and if there's a different version of it.

    50.APQ0N.013
Cable LCD / Camera 16" WXGA
If you notice, there's two different acer part models. I think it has to do with the # of pins on each one..

let us know if the new cable fixes it. I know from experience that the dells are a pain in the bum for changing screens, coz the cables have to match.

Hope it is just the cabling issue on the acer :S

    Good luck.
