I just bought a Acer Aspire 6920 w Vista64 w 4gb ram and 320 gb hd w Vista64 SP1. I noticed that if I am running as a limited user and try to run an application that requires Admin priveleges that the UAC takes 20 secs to "Looking for Credential Tiles" before I actually see the prompt for the admin password. Only thing I did was uninstall McAfee and Office 2007 trial. Also had installed Firefox 3.0.1, NOD32 ver 3 and Open Office. I tried uninstallling these 3 applications but that had no effect on the problem.

I am thinking of using the recovery dvds that I created and doing a clean install since I have no data on the laptop. Is there a way of doing a restore from the hidden partition or are these DVDs the only way to start back at square one?

If you have a backup partition made by Acer, you should be able to do a restore to factory settings. But that would mean the bloatware comes back too.
Why not just make life easier for yourself and disable UAC altogether?

Because I will not be the only person using this laptop. How does one get access to the recovery partition as I see no key combination in the manual to do this.

If you don't see the recovery partition, then it's probably not there. You can double check by going to Start Menu -> Right Click on Computer -> Manage -> Disk Management and see if there are any other partitions.
Again, I doubt it's there if you don't see it when you double click on "My Computer". A clean install from the DVD isn't that hard anyway, and you won't get any bloatware with it.

There are two EISA partitions one 12GB and the other 3GB. Found out that the key combo to get the recovery partition menu is ALT+F12 at bootup. Stilldoes not explain the 20 sec period for the UAC to prompt me for the Admin password.

Found out that the 20 sec delay is being caused by the Validity Fingerprint Service. When it is disabled the password prompt appears in 3 seconds.

Acer has no record of anyone else reporting a similar problem.
