Hi, hope its ok to create an owners lounge for the 6530.
Ok I will start off with asking what variations of this model are there?
    I have the AMD R70 Dual core @ 2ghz
    Ati 3650 512mb
    250gb hard drive
I think thats it for now, one thing I have noticed is that the webcam is not very good compared to my wife's 5920g, wonder why this is.

Besides the few problems I've ran into on this laptop, so far it's been pretty good :) the webcam is decent enough for your average webcam use on MSN, the built in mic is great, specs are high, had a few problems with sound but apart from that it's been awesome.

I get around two and a half hours doing web browsing, music playback and stuff. Doesn't bother me in the slightest because my laptop is always plugged in.

Yeah around 2-3 hours constant web browsing and music playing etc, but as Luke says, I usually use the AC adapter and while doing that I remove the battery.
No problems to report so far, not really put it through much testing to be honest.

got mine 6/22/09. AS6530G 5735, Yeah. I am not sure if I need to manually turn on Tuba or not.

I am using the supplied 64bit Vista home premium, and updated ATI video drivers and my 3dmark03 score went from 5012 to 5995. I was surprised to see suck a low number. The reason being is I can play TF2 with 32 players in a heavy fight with high settings and get 30+ FPS with this laptop. I have a desktop that is directX9 XP Pro 32bit with 2gb ram and a single core athlon [email protected], 7800gs PCIE card that scored 9250 in 3dmark03 and it can barely play the BF2 on low settings.

So, what gives! How can a system that benches almost twice as fast be so much slower?

I got this laptop about 2 months ago. I got the 6530 model. Here are the specs:

    4GB Ram
    2.0GHZ dual core Athlon x 64 QL-62
    250 GB HDD
    ATI Radeon 3200HD

Not sure about the exact date I got it as I don't have it with me atm. Anyways, so far I am very happy with it. I bought it mostly for some low-mid level gaming, and it does its job very well. I have played Gears of War (ran ok, with some minor fps issues), Left 4 Dead (ran great with no issues), HL2 (ran great when AA was turned off), Dark Sector (Runs alright, but there are noticable FPS drops. It is playable at 800x600, max settings though), Bioshock (did not run well), COD4 (Ran ok at 800x600 med low settings), COD 5 (Playable, but many fps drops, more so than in COD4). Most new games this year should be playable at low settings and a low resolution (using this specific model). Most older games should run fine at med-high settings.

Overall it is a very great laptop, as it performs very well in both every day tasks and more heavy duty tasks such as gaming or graphics design. Vista hampers the performance a bit, so using a different OS (like XP) might be a good way to squeeze every last bit of performance out of it. My only minor complaints would be in regards to the monitor and the design of the laptop itself. Before getting my laptop, I used an Acer 19" Monitor with my desktop, and the colors, contrast ratio, black levels, etc, were all great. When compared directly to my old monitor, the colors on the laptop look a little washed out. I was able to make it better by increasing the saturation a little bit. Anyways, this is not a huge deal, but it might be to someone who does graphics design or similar tasks. The laptop stylistically looks really slick and cool, however, I can't help but feel like it is very fragile. When you close it, there is no clip to actually hold it in place, so that is a little bit strange as well. This allows dust to easily get on the monitor even when the laptop is closed. Like before, this is not a big deal as it really should not have a big effect on the laptop, but it would be a little bit better if this issue was non-existent.

With all of this said, the bottom line is that this laptop is a total steal. It has a price tag that might seem almost too good to be true at first. It performs really well with the given specs, and does what it is meant to do. It isn't terribly heavy, and with a good laptop bag shouldn't be a big deal to carry around. The battery life is roughly 2.5-3 hours if the LCD brightness is completely turned down. The only real flaw imo is that the laptop itself doesn't feel as sturdy as a laptop should. This could make for a great desktop replacement, portable computer, or both. Definitely worth the price.

    Hi,

I got my 6530G through insurance company, since my previous laptop broke down.

I've used this now for 2 months.

I have a note towards Acer if somebody there might read this.

Laptop started to be very slow after few weeks usage.
I installed Vista home premium 32-bit, that came with the laptop. HW of the laptop enables 64-bit systems. 64-bit operating system anyhow was not included.

First problems seemed to come when browsing. If there was a page that had lots of images, browsing was veeery slow, if I scrolled mouse whell, page might scroll after 5seconds (really).
Whenever audio was played, computer hanged totally, music player (does not matter what) started using CPU 70-80%. Try to browse at the same time. Browser might start in a minute and pages loading very slowly.

I found few corrections, disabling HD Audio device made the music playing problem go away. Browsing was still slow, it did not matter which browser (IE, FF, Chrome) all slow. There were some fixes to make vista faster, disabling autotuning, shutting down useless services, in IE disabling cleartype and smooth scrolling. Anything did not help.
Anyhow, when I had 4GB RAM and decent dual-core processor, it was not possible that everything would be so slow.
I of course ran AD-aware, hijackthis, virus scan, you name it. I found no marks from spyware or virus.

I now formatted the whole drive and made a clean install of Vista Ultimate 64-bit.
How about that, everything is smooth and fast.
I also saw this model in one electronics store. It was also very sticky and slow like mine.

So reason had to be in some of these:
    32-bit vs 64-bit system
Acer's crappy e-softwares that came along with the laptop
I had a hidden virus/spyware which made everything slow, same spyware was in the store?

Make a clean install to laptop when you get one. I'm never again going to install the operating system that comes along with the computer.

Had my 6530G for about a week, all working well. Then yesterday it went completely dead. The power pack plugged in did not light up indicator and light on pack itself was flashing. Then this am tried again before about to ring Acer support and all back to normal!

Hi, if the laptop became slow after a few weeks that hardly points towards the Acer software, it more than likely means you unknowingly installed something that caused the issue...

    Hey everybody!

I saw that this is where all the cool Acer 6530 people hang out, so I wanted to make my presence known. :) I've had my Acer since early may and have been extremely satisfied with it. Although lately, the wife has complained about sound issues, primarily with the subwoofer. I saw that there was another thread for this issue that someone else had posted. Are sound problems a recurring theme with this laptop?

Other that this particular issue, I love the laptop! I still need to wipe it and put Vista Ultimate 64-bit on, but I want to make sure that I can get the drivers that I need as well. I found the drivers for the 6530g on the Acer page. Are those the most recent?

Have the lastest driver for Raedon, HD 3650.

Yeah, I get that. I started getting it after installing graphics drivers from the ATI website. I haven't had any problems with my display though. I just click OK to get rid of the message.

Just to share a few more experieinces with my 6530. Had a few problems playing blu-ray through TV and got bogged down in trying to use the Catalyst control centre to set to output of single screen. Anyway there is a great video on YouTube that shows you how to do it step by step -

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wWC79bor3

    ... it works

Now really pleased with this machine, looking at spec of other machines this packs a lot of power / functionality for the money. It is my intention to replace my PC with this and I am nearly there.

I wanted to ask you guys your thoughts concerning a OS upgrade from Vista Home premium 32 bits to Vista Ultimate 64 bits. I wanted to know if I have to download or backup the Acer drivers because I do not know if devices such as the Acer Crystal Eye will work properly with this new OS. Do you guys reccomend this upgrade? I have an Aspire 6530 G with AMD Turion ZM-80 2.1 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD and a Blu ray driver.

    Thank you.

my fan is ALWAYS on. is this the case with anyone else? I have the 6530-6552 with Athlon X2 QL-62 and Radeon 3200 graphics. I'm not even doing anything, just keeping it idle and the fan is always on low (but is still audible).

Your fan will always be on, its normal with these laptops, even with a desktop the fan is always on to cool the CPU.
When using it on your bed or any surface that can block the vents, it will get hotter as the hot air cannot get out and the cool air cannot get in, remember this and always make sure the vents around the fan are free from obstruction.

Not sure about other versions of Vista, but I installed the 64bit version of Windows 7 recently and it worked perfectly. Even the fingerprint reader worked using microsoft software and not Acer bio protection software.
As this was just the Beta release I am considering getting the full version when it comes out.

I picked 2 of the Acer AS6530-6522 from BestBuy for 329.99 one for my son, and the wife.
After I formatted the notebooks and installed the 64 bit version of Vista I have to say lots of bang for the buck, and the build quality is surprisingly good. Over all very pleased with this notebook.

    Dual core processor
    Hd3200 ATI grfx
    Nice sized hard drive.
    Wireless N
    Separate numeric keypad
    Excellent webcam
    Nice audio for a notebook
    Vista home premium
    Free Win 7 upgrade
All for 329.00 I think great buy.

Good day everyone. I have a 6530-6522 and have no major complaints. My only question is whether anyone has attempted to use a remote control with the laptop? If so, how did you do it? Any input would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Hi guys, just wanted some advice on some problems I'm having with my laptop.

I've installed a clean version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and downloaded the relevant drivers that I could find from the Acer site, the rest from the manufacturers or Windows Update. All is fine apart from I've noticed when playing any media content through the internet or iTunes/WMP, the computer slows down a lot and the fans kick in really loudly which will last for anything up to a couple of minutes. Video or music will start freezing and jumping during this duration.

I downloaded the driver for the ATI 3650HD from the Acer UK site (AMD Chipset Driver (RS780) 8.65).

I've looked through the ATI site for a newer driver but couldn't find anything for this graphics card. I'm not even sure if this is the problem.

I'm running the laptop constantly on High Performance mode.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

I have an acer aspire 6530 and have recently installed windows 7 ultimate 64 edition and have installed all the necessary drivers, and have noticed that the fans have slowed down and the computer is over heating, if any one has any idea why this is happening and what I can do to fix it I would really appreciate any help at all. thank you in advance.

I have also made a set of recovery disks with the original OS and setting and am wondering if that is the only way I will be able to fix the problem.

Hello, new here. Glad to find this thread. I've bought my 6530 from Best Buy last August for 279.00. I guess they were on closeout because I haven't seen another one in any Best Buy I've been in since. It's a shame too because it's a great machine, and a lot of machine for buck as well.
Overall, I've had no real issues with mine except just recently, the right side output to the headphones stopped working. I don't know if it's a setting I've changed or the jack has shorted. Maybe a fresh driver install? I do alot of home recording and studio work with my band so I need this to work but I'm sure it's an easy fix or maybe time for a new soundcard.

I do have one question that's been bothering me. It seems that my power supply gets very hot. I know they are prone to get warm but sometime I believe it's hatter than it should be, is this normal? Am I worrying over nothing?

Hi, not sure about your question, but nice upgrades, I might be doing something similar soon.
To Guitar man, they do get hot, especially on demanding programs etc, try using different power options to suit your needs, it don't take to long to make a power option for a specific program.
