OK, i've got a bit of cash and looking to upgrade my laptop (model above) it currently is running

    Windows Vista 32bit
    4.0gb RAM
    Intel (R) TM Core Duo CPU T6400 @ 2.Ghz
    Nvidia GeForce 9300m GS

I'm mainly using it to run FM 2013, which its kinda slow and struggling with and running Pro Farm/Reaper software.. I'm a bit of a laptop dunce so apart from upgrading the RAM as crucial.com recommended to 4gb i've no idea what i should look to really improve first.. Cash isnt really much of an issue as i'll save for each part bit by bit (overtime pay!! :p) and upgrade as i go,

What do you guys recommend first? and i wanna get it running at the best i can without ing it up :)

Help? or let me know if you need any further info. Cheers guys.

    SORRY ITS AN ASPIRE 6930G...

You could upgrade the GPU to nVidia 9600M GT 512MB DDR3- that would be a significant improvement.

Upgrading RAM won't do much- it's unlikely that you would need more than 4GB- in fact with 32bit system you're not even using it all.
CPU can be upgraded too- you have quite a few options here.

For general pleasure of computing- Windows 7 64bit and a faster HDD (possibly SSD if you can afford it).

    To prioritize:

    1. GPU- preferably 9600M GT 512MB DDR3 or ATI/AMD Radeon HD 4650 (also DDR3)

    2. CPU

    3. The rest ;)

P.S. Did you mean Aspire 6930G? I assumed you did while answering (title says 6390G)

You can easily do that yourself.

Once you unscrew the big service panel on the bottom you'll see MXM module and CPU covered by a heatsink.
You don't need to be proficient with this stuff to DIY- at least not in this notebook.

As someone has offered to pay for the CPU upgrade. need advice on that next not the SSD.

    Intel® Core

?? that do i'll have to payfor the fitting myself but what would you suggest the price is about what i'm looking to spend wuihtout ruiining the laptop itself :)

    cheers

It should work fine as far as I know. As for the price- it's steep if you ask me- may be prices are like that in the UK but almost $230 is quite a lot for the CPU alone.

No idea on the price that's the first one i found online, i'm not too familiar with which CPU are a better choice to go for to have a look around under the name

I'll have a search through that other thread and see whats been put in for other users, then again £140 in GBP and i'm not really paying, i'll only be forking out for the fitting :)

I can prob get the T9600, T9800 or the X9100 for less than £100, if that'll fit prob more value for the cash, which would be your call??

I am new to this forum - so hello to everyone - I used the site for guidance before I joined
    I have just upgraded my Aspire 6930G from a 9300m GS (256) to a 9600m GS (512)
I got the card off e-bay for £8.00 delivered (bargain - I think the decimal point was in the wrong place)
I ran the nvidia web-site scan facility to get the up to date drivers and installed them ok
Vista score went up from 3.4 to 4.8 overall - not bad
Just put another meg of ram in as well to speed things up a bit
All seems to be going OK so far - need to give it a bit of a work out and keep an eye on the temperatures!
