Hi. Please bear with me first post!! I bought an ACER 5738Z for my son and he has given it to me. He installed UBUNTU on it and set up a boot menu giving the choice of Windows 7 or UBUNTU. I want to do a fresh install to get back to factory settings. When I try to restore from the ACER recovery partition (Alt + F10) the process stops after approx 20 seconds and a window pops up saying "Failed To Get Disk 0 Partition 3 Drive Letter". I assume this is because of the boot menu. My son lost the Restore Disks I made when we first started the machine with VISTA but I do have the ACER Windows 7 Upgrade kit as when the machine was bought these were provided for the cost of the postage. I also have a set of Restore Disks from a friend who bought the same laptop at the same time as me. I also have my own retail disks for XP Pro and Windows 7. What is the best way of restoring back to the factory settings? I think whichever method I use will have to replace the ACER boot file. I would like to keep the Recovery Partition.

If it was me i would wipe whole drive clean and put win7 on it.The drive that has restore files might be deleted or corrupt.

So can I do that by simply using the ACER supplied Win 7 Upgrade kit? I use my other OS retail disks on other machines.
