Two questions.
First, is there any kind of noticible graininess on the screen?
Second, does removing that black strip blocking the vent help the machine run cooler?
-
Two sorta-answers:
1. No significant graininess, but I did notcie some around the grey area when starting up Steam when I'm about to play Counterstrike Source, but that's abou it...
2. I've seen another article talking about that black strip saying that the temp did help the laptop run cooler, however, the lappy got more dust in it as a result...
Hope this helps...
Found a link referencing the black strip here:

That black strip is there for a REASON. To not allow dust & stuff to get into your machine. Leave it there.

Ill take a little dust(which is easily removed) if it cools my lappy down the way it did. I do alot of heavy stuff on this acer and ever since I removed the black sheet my hands NEVER sweat, even at full tilt. Besides every 3-6 months just get a dust canister, open the panel spray for like 5-10seconds and the very little dust there will be gone. Well worth the 2 seconds it took to do.
As far as a grainy screen, check your resolution in windows and other full screen apps. Mine is very smooth for the size and res. -
Also, the dirt & grit ends un in the heatsink. Compresed air will not remove ALL the dirt.
And, frankly, I do not want to open my laptop and void the warranty.
But that's just my opinion. -
opening the panel to clean things wont void the warranty as you need to open the panel to replace/upgrade ram; and upgrading ram doesnt void the warranty.
I can understand someone like you not wanting to take it off, I know if I had a cat like that I wouldnt. Even going to my parents house where the dog sheds a good deal my acer internals look clean as new, and its been almost a month. All I was pointing out in my other thread is if you so choose it will help a little. This mod is not for everyone as we have pointed out.
