Is there a reason why my burner is slow...even with normal cd's? I reformatted and everything.. This computer works like a dream after the reformat but the burner still remains on the slow side.. Any input? Thanks in advance!

    How slow is slow?

Check your IDE is set to DMA. Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager. Under IDE/ATAPI Controllers, on your primary (or secondary if you have it) and make sure both devices 0 and 1 are set to DMA mode.

Try getting the latest chipset drivers from Intels website as well.

make sure that you IDE controllers are set to DMA not to PIO ..start menu, control panel, system, hardware, device manager, IDE ATA controllers, primary controllers go into advance settings and make sure that you that the DMA settings not the PIO. hope this helps

How long does it take to burn a full 700mb CD exactly?

And the Toshiba MK1234GSX is not a burner, that is your hard drive. I believe the slot loader on the 5672wlmi is a Pioneer, which is a 24x CD burner. Mx burning speed is 3,600kbs, so in theory it should take 194 seconds to burn a full CD, however CDs do not write at max speed across the entire disc, so realistically, around 230 seconds. However, I have found with most Acer laptops there is only one IDE channel, which does slow things down somewhat. On my CD burning I find around 5-6 minutes is about the time it takes to burn a whole cd.
