Today when I tried the Acer Crystal Eye Webcam software on this machine, it didn't work, saying "Camera no found".
I tried Skype and the camera works there. I downloaded the hardware finder from the Acer website, which said it was a Suyin camera.

I uninstalled, then downloaded the appropriate zip file from the Acer.co.uk website. I'm running Win7 Pro 64-bit SP1.
Installing made no difference. I then uninstalled and reinstalled with Chicony version. Again no change (and Skype still worked).

Went through the Device Manager "update drivers" loop and the webcam entry now says "usb webcam". Still Skype works.

Then looked on the support.acer.com website and selected the right machine and OS. That offers a driver with XP in its name, not the same driver as on the acer.co.uk site.

If the camera is usb, I have installed the ATI Southbridge usb filter driver. This was essential to sort out usb audio problems.
Maybe this or maybe Win 7's SP1 broke it.

    What is going on?
