Also, does it allow the motherboard to support 4GB ram?

4GB will never run, it's not a BIOS limitation but chipset. I don't even know how 3GB works, GL960 should take 2GB max.

Do you know which chipset you have stanny2k?
ATG says you have GL960, another member, pmerrill, owns the same laptop and has upgraded his CPU to T7300 and says that his laptop has GM965.
    I am quite confused.
If you have GM965 then you can upgrade to 4Gb. You might be able to upgrade to more than 4Gb actually. There are many who report T61 laptops with GM965 chipset and 8GB RAM.
According the Intel maximum memory of GL960 is 2GB
    http://ark.intel.com/chipset.aspx?familyID=26558
Unless it means per RAM slot then the maximum total memory is 4Gb.
    For the PM965 is 4GB
    http://ark.intel.com/chipset.aspx?familyID=28116
which apparently is not true at least in some laptops like here:

All 5315s comes with GL960 however some programs report it as GM965.

I don't think the limit is an amount of RAM per slot, I wish it was..

No. 5315 can't take 4GB because of the chipset limitation not because of a BIOS limitation. No chance for 4GB in that laptop, ever.
