I'm a new member and not very IT savvy so please bear with me .

I have an Acer 5100 and the touch pad has died ( including all the buttons ). Was perfect one day , turned it on the next day and it was dead. I'm surviving on an old IBM mouse plugged into USB port at present.

Have checked the mouse properties and it says it is working properly ( which it obviously isn't ) . Have uninstalled and re-installed including checking for latest driver on line . The mouse properties still tell me everything is working properly .

Wondered if any one could help me with a next step ?

    Thxs

i'm sure you've checked, but sometimes the most obvious, simple stuff is overlooked.
not sure about the 5100, but on my Acer, there is a hotkey to disable the touchpad. I dont have it in front of me right now, but i believe it's Fn+F5? check to be sure it is set to on. (again, i assume you had checked this when u opened the properties box)

Thxs . All sorted . It was indeed the obvious !!! I had somehow turned it off via the fn key . Ironically , I didn't even know there was a function key to switch off the touchpad !!

I did warn you that wasn't IT savvy but I'm learning all the time.

Thanks again from another satisfied customer .

+1. Sometimes, the simple things provide the solution.
