    Hello,
    I would like to upgrade my Acer 3820tg from stock 2GB + 2GB RAM to 2GB + 8GB RAM. The stock RAMs are clocked to 1033MHz, but the new one is marked as 1600MHz. Both are SO-DIMM DDR3. Will this setup work?

    As far as I know, it should works (the 8GB RAM will automatically underclock to 1033MHz), but somewhere on the forum, there was a discussion, that it it may not work.

    Could you please help me or point me to the discussion? (I tried to search it, but I can't find it)

    Thank you :)

    I cheated and using my mod powers I added another possibility and voted for it.
    It's true that it should work but I've seen quite a few cases where 1600MHz RAM did not downclock properly. I don't know why exactly - possibly there is a significant difference between 1066MHz chips and 1600MHz ones.

    That said - I saw these upgrades not working on notebooks of the same generation you have (and I have) so I would not risk it if I were you.

    Thank you for the reply. I will find some friend with 1600 MHz RAM, try it and post the results here.

    I borrowed 4 GB 1600MHz RAM and tried it with my 2 GB 1066 MHz RAM. The results are even more weird:
    Slot1 - Slot 2: result;
    1600MHz - 1066 MHz: not working. Can see POST but can't enter BIOS
    1066 MHz - 1600 MHz: working
    1600 MHz - empty: working

    So I'm going to buy a 8 GB 1600 MHz RAM and I will post more results after test.

    I am not sure how your ram upgrade went but just in case it is of interest I used this ram to recently upgrade my 3920tg:

    http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00505EZYW/ref=pe_386430_30332290_TE_3p_dp_

    It worked perfectly and I am happy with the results.

    I think all the Core i3/5 Arrandale CPUs can handle up to 8 GB RAM. At least that's the case for my Core i5 450M in my 5820TG. So I put in 2 4GB modules and it runs just fine.
