    Hello everybody,

So, SP1 successfully installed, and running. Now I have another question:

Anyone updated BIOS to ver. 1.06 available for download? Any tips? The txt file says to start the PC in pure DOS mode - and already here I am lost. How do I stop Vista from booting?
In the previous systems I'd start the PC with the Windows CD in, and start DOS. But here, with preinstalled Windows and no CD, I just don't know where to start.

    Regards,
    P.

Why don't you flash in Vista? With WinPhlash?

Yeah, the v1.06 does have WinPhlash in it....and it is fairly easy to use but make a backup of your BIOS first..!!

Txs for all the tips. Will give it a try.
Does the WinPhlash offer the backup of current BIOS, or I need to use some other tool?

Just flashed mine with the 1.07 version (I have a 6920G), in Vista, with Winphlash. Make sure you have the battery full (you can even connect it to the power line). Close all programs, let it do it... and reboot.

Txs everyone for help. It was really simple :) Just sounded more difficult when I looked at the nfo file of Acer attached to the BIOS file...

    Once again: big thanks!

let me know if you notice if the FAN has been kicked up a notch.

HP and DELL and others have recently done this because of the Nvidia fiasco.

I do not notice that the fan has been kicked up.... I think that HP and DELL have done this with specific GPU (I don´t remember now, but I read that it was an issue with 8600 GPU)

its difficult to say which models are affected.

there are claims that only G84 and G86 have the fault but the 9500M GS is a variant of the G84 (die shrink)

thanks to the Hush hush policy of Nvidia and the conspirators we may never find out.

theinq.com suggests that all of Nvidia parts are affected.

that aside - how terrible is the release notes for BIOS changes....no real details at all.

hi Aleicgrant - could you do us fellow 8920G owners small experiment.

if your lappy is not loaded with the 1.13 BIOS already when it arrives.

    download G-PUZ
    http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

run this little app before updating your system, note down the idle temperature. (ie when your laptop is not running any applications)

Leaving GPU-Z in the background fireup gfx intensive app like a game for abt 30 mins.

alt+tab into GPUZ a few times and note the temps.

after you have loaded up 1.13 re-do the above.

im interested in finding out if they did alter the fans.

currently on my setup 1.05 with the 9500M GS.

    idle: ~60 degrees celcius
    load: ~76 degrees celcius
    Room temp: ~27 degrees celcius

So what's the observation with bios v1.13? Anything different as compared to the previous bios version. Any impact on the fan?

often bios updates have a txt or doc file that lists changes. since last version,,, so often you have to download a couple bois file that details all changes made to each version

just download and hope there is a txt file ,, a "change log.txt" file

often new bios files will update cooling info and all kinds of good fixes!!

but be every careful doing the flash.... follow manufacturers directions exactly

    hey guys,
I got a 8920G a few days now. (the version with the 9650m GS)

I have a heat problem I think, just installed a not real demanding game but after 10 minutes of play I saw my GPU temp was 83 degrees celsius so I closed the game. ACPI showed 81 degrees. (on idle it shows 51 degrees for GPU) I used CPUID Hardware Monitor to check the temps.

I am not sure but I think that is rather hot. Dont even wanna know where it is when playing a bit longer or even a more demanding game on a warmer day!

What I am trying to find out is if its a real problem, what do you people think?

Another question is, on te newer bios versions have they done anything that might involve the possible heat problem? (I am running 1.07 atm) Also I see 1.07 isnt their for download anymore while a lower version is. Hope not that it is because of this problem! I am not keen on flashing my bios, I am not a techie and have been reading some bad experiances.

Hope you guys can give me some advice, thanks in advance!

I'm new to laptops but old to desktops so...

A standard aircooled 8800GT can idle around 60-70 degrees and hit 100 degrees under extended use, so the numbers wouldn't alarm me unless the laptop was getting too hot to touch.

I would say you should be similar to me, but maybe a little bit warmer as I have the 9500 card and the T8300 processor. When I'm running WoW at 1920x1080 the casing gets warm but not what I'd call hot though the heat from the exhaust fan is pretty hot. When idle it's barely above room temp.
