Then I promise I'll stop asking

After some misadventures with my new lappy, it's working fine as a dual-boot with Ubuntu 7.10. There are some glitches in Ubuntu (sound and wireless) but looks to be fixable now or problems will probably go away with Ubuntu's next version.

So, my question is very straightforward. If you made your recovery DVD's, then re-installed the entire system with them without making a mess of the existing partitions like I did, would the end result be exactly like new, with the four partitions (two EISA, one C:\, and one D:\), or different? I'm just not clear on that after reading several threads on the subject. I'm under the impression that re-installing with DVD's also makes some of the original formatting go away?
