Love the computer but it has issues with freezing and occasionally showing the dreaded BLUE screen....any ideas??? Do I have a lemon? Should I cut my losses and return it?????
    THANKS for your ideas!

I just bought this computer and have updated all acer drivers and bios version is 1.30 and will update bios to 1.31 via dos as the windows updater doesnt work. It still freezes up randomly. It's so incredibly frustrating. There have been lots of suggestions given by people who have had luck fixing the problem but still no good for me.

Same problem here. Mine was one of the last ones to have Vista, and I will be getting a free Windows 7 upgrade - hopefully this will help.

If not, BIOS v1.31 is my last hope.

Apart from that, I suppose the usual advice is not lay it on a soft surface, especially on high performance settings, as it may overheat.

Did you guys do a clean reinstall(Not Factory Recovery)?
There is a thread on that dig it out.
All the Acer users have feedback so far a clean install fixes everything.
Also note Intel has released new Storage and Graphics driver get it from Intel, Acer supplied ones are outdated.

    Hello weinter,

Do you think it makes any difference if I flash to BIOS v1.31 (DOS) before switching to Windows 7?

Or if a clean install of Windows 7 solves my freezing issues, should I stick with v1.28?

And I presume you mean a clean install using an upgrade disk, which I believe is possible.

When BSOD, write down the error code(or just take a photo of the screen). If you're lucky, you'll see the specified file at fault that would help you isolate the issue.

If not, google the error code and see what it comes out.

Finally, when crashing, Windows will create a mini dump file, try to analyze the file and nail the cause.

what's unusual is that i have never had the bsod. my cursor hangs and cant be moved. i know it's not that i have accidentally disabled the touchpad because the systray time freezes when it hangs and the keyboard stops working.

Ok just for the record I only have the Acer Aspire Timeline 3810TZ.
Updated to the latest BIOS and installed Windows 7 (Clean installed using downloaded iso and OEM activation) using drivers from Intel and realtek and Atheros direct.
The only acer software drivers used is the launch manager, Power Manager.
No hanging issue of anything very good considering it is powered by SU2700 (a very sucky Processor)

I've never had a BSOD either. Just the frozen OS, virtually on a daily basis.

My sister had the same on a different model Acer, and flashing the BIOS solved the problem.

so i updated the bios to 1.31 via dos and still freezes. I did have a period of about 5 days where it didnt freeze, even when leaving it on all night! this happened after i updated to the latest intel chipset drivers (from intel.com). Then windows update updated the atheros drivers and it's freezing again. I even rolled the atheros drivers back but still freezes. lame.
