    Hi guys,
finally I got my brand new Acer lappy, however I have a slight problem. First thing I did was checking if it works, then switching it off and upgrading CPU to T9300 (I bought a full box version), I also replaced RAM with 4GB Kingston HyperX (should be faster) and swaped the 5400rpm 320 GB HDD into 7200rpm 200 GB (of course I put the 320Gb drive into the 2nd socket).
Everything worked fine exept the recovery tool which did not let me create the dvd backup when opening Vista for the first time. I think something also happened to the recovery partition, despite the fact it looks ok, when I put this disk into my USB caddy and checked on some other machine.
Now the only thing which boots up is the recovery tool with only one option available >>>> "EXIT". I just can't boot into Vista any more and since the only available option is EXIT it's a bit annoying.

Guys do you know where can I get this DVD recovery disc?

maybe it might help to put the laptop back to STOCK and try to create the RECOVERY DISKS the way ACER intended them to be created...

having the second drive installed could be confusing the recovery application.... i know acer is not known for throughly testing the recovery app in ALL circumstances

    check your PM

I think it's not the hardware i put into the lappy. I messed up with the original HDD and since they need to have some special structure like 1st hidden partition with FAT32, then the regular C:/ drive NTFS, then the next NTFS drive, etc.
So because I merged C: and D: drive into one this must have affected this recovery tool. Anyway I have no idea how the structure supposed to be like now so hope someone will have some suggestions.
Maybe I'll just format this HDD completly and install some clean version on the new 7200 rpm drive.
One option was to clone and copy the recovery partition on the new HDD or burn it onto DL DVD. But no luck :( Have no idea how to do this now.

merging the C & D partitions cannot touch the hidden partition which i think is an EFS file structure (not FAT OR NTFS,,, since from inside windows a FAT32 partition would shouw up as visible )

You can go to the acer website with your serail number and order a recover cd or just call acer and order one. You would get it in 3 days then install everything and you would be allset. I almost forgot to mention that the CD I believe is $19.95

alojzy_m,, did you get anywhere by removing the second HDD??

    just curious..

and if you call up ACER and COMPLAIN that your system will not BURN the recovery CDs... they may actually send them to you for FREE..

i've seen another post that claims that if the owner calls and requests the QUICK RESTORE CDs within 90days of purchase they "MUST" provide them free of charge.. ((probably not true,, but worth a shot...)) it that fails,, then DEMAND to speak to a superviosor.... and try to talk the supervisor to sending you the disks...
