My TM8204's 120GB HDD is a Toshiba MK1234GSX model. I think earlier models ship with a 100GB Seagate Momentus. The unit I got is a 06/06 Built.

Just look under Disk Drives in the Device Manager. The make and model of the hard drive should be listed there. Acer and companies use hard drives from different suppliers, so it can vary from one 8204 to another.

Seagates are pretty good. The increase in performance from a 5400rpm toa 7200rpm HDD will be small. I mean, you"ll notice some differences but it wont be like night and day. As for as battery life and heat, I doubt the 7200rpm HDD's will have any noticable effect on it. Most manufacturers these days claim to have the same power consumption of 5400/4200rpm HDD. So, power draw of a 7200rpm HDD will be similar.

As for as the ease of changing the HDD, it shouldnt be a problem. The hardest part of installing a new HDD will be to get the software and other programs back on to the HDD. The actual physical work involved is just removeing a few screws.
