THe Windows winphlashutility reports "Part ID of System Bios and new Image File are different". The DOS utility reports similar, refusing to flash

Acer tell me I am trying to use the correct latest bios (V1.23) but totally refuse to comment on anything else apart from "Flash at your own risk". I deem it unsafe to flash using 'override' but they wont say a word as to why its reporting 'wrong part ID'

The support site links to Bios V1.1 but this is a 'dead link', with the V1.23 being only obtained via their ftp site.
They also did not want to know that their web site is erronous, instead giving me a premium rate phone number to ring.

Anyone updated an Acer with a 'bios version error' reported?????

edit - yes its from the Euro site. Visit it and you will see. http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_7100.html
Never needed a repair.Motherboard is a Myall current bios is V1.05 , CPU supplied was a Celeron 1.6 not the 1.5 that ths spec states.

are you getting your BIOS files from

    support.acer-euro.com

go there,, they have many many versions for my PC
the file is the same as the US files,, just better info and more files at the euro site...

BTW,, has your acer been sent in for warranty repair??
if so Acer may have replaced the MB or even replaced the BIOS chip w/ one that is "compatible" but not the FACTORY installed CHIP ID that the flash program is searching for..

i'm like you,,, i'd be very leary of using the OVERRIDE function,, atleast until you have more info on why your BIOS CHIP ID doesn't match

    later,

well I was hoping that there would be some bios programmers hanging around here.
Or maybe an Acer employee who could take action.

Theoretically the Bios V1.23 could kill every Acer Aspire 7100 Series laptop on the planet.

Incidently I found V1.10 bios for this laptop(released for Vista compatibility). It has its own software to do the update and ran without any error message.

I still get an 'impending doom' message from the V1.23 Bios pre-update though.

Still makes me angry that Acer's new bios shows a mismatch and and yet Acer would not even look into a problem that may well effect every single 7103WSMI on the planet.
