    Hi all,

Searched but couldn't find any info, wondered if anyone has dismantled their 6930?
I received my 6930 today and have a p9500 I want to replace the t5800 with, however Im stuck half way through dismantling it!
I've removed all the screws from the underside as it looks as if the heatpipe is attached somewhere under it, however it feels as if the underside casing is still attached somehow (possibly hidden screws?)
I tried popping the four tabs which hold the keyboard in on the topside, incase theres something under there, however they refuse to move also!

More than likely it's something small I've missed, or it could be I'm not applying enough force? Don't want to break something accidently though on a two hour old lappie :(

I'd be fairly confident pulling apart laptops- but this has me stumped..

Has anyone any experience or advice, any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks

Ok, so after alot of messing around I figured it out, P9500 successfully installed and working great.

If anyone needs any info on how to take their 6930 apart let me know- it's a bit of a nitemare as you have to strip the entire laptop down and remove the motherboard just to upgrade the cpu!

I had a similar problem with my 5920G when I tried to put my T9300. It looks like Acer just doesn't give a dime about upgradability of their laptops. It doesn't take a genius to make a practical design for the 15"-16" range. The 17"-18" have a much better design.

5920G is perfect for upgrading, indeed.

Good to hear that you found a way to get under the hood of yours lucino :)

Yes I had hoped it was easy job, but you live and learn :)

Do you guys/gals think it might be good for others if I wrote up a rough guide on how to do it?

Also the secondary hard drive bay cover has two plastic 'legs' which stop it going back after you insert a hard drive, does anyone know if it will fit if I grind those off?

Since the links to Acer Service Manuals are forbidden here, feel free to share your experience and your photos :)

If this wont worse the chassis's stability - grind them :D

There appear two parts for the 2nd HDD bay on the 6930 42.AVB07.001 to allow 2nd HDD or for no 2nd HDD 42.ASR07.007 though grinding is the third option.

Wow, that has to be an NBR record

From brand new to stripped and upgraded within plus/minus two hours.

Simple question....did you even switch the lappie on before doing the processor upgrade??

And do you feel that the new processor you have upgraded to has made a huge difference to your lappie speed and performance. (You would not know that though unless you had actually used and tried your lappie with the OEM processor??). No???

And two hours is too little to test anything anyway.

Sounds like you bought the lappie brand new with the intention of stripping it anyway to fit the new processor??

    Right or wrong??

@lordlinus, have you removed the drive from the notebook before trying toremoving the metal plate? At work but I'll be cracking mine open again tonight so will have a look for you if your still stuck.

@TeeJay 44 - um well yes I did switch it on briefly- had planned to leave it for a week to make sure all was ok, but curiosity got the better of me, who says living dangerously isn't exciting!

So, is your lappie now blisteringly fast. Like much faster than the original processor you had in there???

I ask this because the T5600 in my lappie has an amazing turn of speed.

    Also Core 2 Duo.

    Just interested.

@TeeJay 44 & lucino, my laptop is not turning on (fault on the mother board i think). service guys said that the data will have to be wiped once they get that and asked me to backup my own data...

i have opened quite a few laptops before and i thought backing up wouldnt be a big deal.. i did lot of googling and couldnt find anything relavant until i saw this forum..

since i am new to the laptop and on top of tht it has to go for a warranty repair...dint want to try my senses..

tks guys..pls do let me know if there is a way to take the hard disk out..

TeeJay 44 - the P9500 was an upgrade from my old system which Im going to sell, the T5800 I swapped into that, so yea I had always planned to upgrade the 6930 when I got it.

The T5800 seems like a fairly decent cpu, runs well enough on my old system and I'd probably be happy enough keeping it if I didn't have a replacement.
The P9500 is a little faster but not really noticable in everyday use, unless Im stressing the system and then it's noticable, runs cooler though which is always a plus.

How do you find your T5600?

lordlinus- the link ayarbee posted should solve your problem? Wish I'd seen that thread as it took me a while to figure out how to remove it myself!
Let us know how you get on

Re the second hard drive- I ground off the two plastic legs from the underside of the cover, however it looks like I may have to shave off 1-2mm from the inside bottom curve. It's a VERY tight fit until I do that, and too tight I feel to not be putting too much pressure on the newly installed drive.
Will advise back once it's done :)
