    I have the synpatics driver uninstalled as when it's installed, it messes up the keyboard input and makes it far too slow for how fast I type. However the tapping on the touch pad is overly sensitive so it often gets randomly clicked when I'm typing, often causing the window i'm working in to be closed etc.

    Is there any way to disable it without having the driver installed?

    Yup. Just press FN F7 (if you have installed Launch Manager, it will disable the touchpad).

    Yes just install the driver and manually configure the device to disable tapping.
    Seriously there is no need to remove the driver you can set sensitivity settings.
    I will recommend to use the hp synaptics driver they are much better than Acer's POS downloads.

    100MB? :eek: for a lousy pointing device driver?
    Apart from that, I can't complain about the drivers from Acer (had to add a little registry tweak, though ;) ).

    Installing the driver causes keyboard lag, I'm afraid. I may just have to quickly disable/engable touchpad when typing.

    You might also see if an external pointing device helps. The Synaptics driver normally comes with an option that can be enabled to turn the touchpad off if an external pointing device is attached.

    In case your driver version does not have this option, try this registry modification:
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTP]
    "DisableTouchPadIfMousePresent"=dword:00000001

    Copy this into Notepad and save as something like "touchpad_off_with_external_mouse.reg". Double click and then there should be a checkbox in the "device settings"
    Note, this is a user specific setting.
