    Hi everyone,

I've got the standard config: T7300, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD etc etc.

What I haven't got is a DVD drive that will read good old regular CDs! I just can't believe it and have tried everything related to the media itself being old, new, original, burned (on other comps, obviously) etc etc. I haven't got ANY problems with DVD-Rs though. Do you guys think this might be a driver issue, or what?

Worth noting is that I've switched from 32bit Vista to 64bit. The problem remained.

The drivers I'm using were downloaded from the acer's ftp repository thing.

So, any advice regarding the proper place to get drivers for this model would be most welcome... I've just downloaded one of those "driver detective" kind of programs, and its telling me that everything intel-based such as my IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers etc, as well as my network and storage controllers are all outdated.

As I'm writing this, I'm looking at /notebook/aspire_5920/vista/64bit/ at ftp.support.acer-euro.com which is where I got my drivers from, presumably... is this as good as it gets?

thanks, and sorry for the lengthy post.

This is most likely due to a faulty drive. If the notebook is under warranty, sent it back. If not, replace the drive yourself (relatively easy).
