    Hi guys!

I have been searching around but haven't found anything related to my issue. I hope someone has an idea what is wrong.

So the problem with my external monitor. When I connect it to the VGA port it shows anything, just a black screen without the notification "no signal".
FN+F5 doesn't work. In bios I tried to set power auto/both for displays. Nothing too.

But when it boots into windows, the external monitor starts to work. On any other laptop I saw the external monitor doesn't require OS to start working. Apparently something is wrong.

Could you please help where to go further?

I bought this notebook and I know the video card was changed due to failure of the original one. Currently it has 8400gs installed. I tried 2 different 8400gs cards but it doesn't affect the external monitor (doesn't work until I boot into windows).

    Any ideas?

So you are saying, you do not get output onto the external monitor before entering OS load phase?

I think that is normal for some machines. I have a Compal FL90 that came with a 8600M GT. I never got a signal before entering OS loading.

I replaced the 8600M GT (as it went dead) with an ATI 3650. The external monitor works right from the start.

I think its hardware related, hardly anything you can do about it.

May I ask which laptop you have?

Either way, nothing to worry about, normally. Unless you want the make bios settings on a 26' screen, hehe.

Thank you Dr.Colossos, the notebook is acer 5920G.to be more specific I get output when the windows login screen appears.

So I should get some other card instead of 8400 to test it. I think my laptop had 8600 originally installed. Probably bios doesn't work with 8400 correctly.

    Thank you
