hey guys, I have an Acer Aspire 5741G, this laptop comes win two configurations, one with an ATi video card, the other with a Nvidia video card. Now my model has the ATi hardware, my questions is, are these video cards soldered\built into the motherboard, or can they be changed? I want to change my ATi card to the Nvidia card, or a more powerful ATi card.

It looks like it's soldiered- recent ones all are but it's not 100% confirmed yet.

Two models with different video cards /= MXM compatibility.
The only way to know for sure is to open that sonuvagun up and take a look for yourself!

thanks for replying guys, I have a good feeling it is soldered, since most modern laptops are. But since the 5741G comes with either ATi or Nvidia, I have some hope that it can be swapped. Where can I get my hands on the Nvidia GT 320m that comes with the other 5741G?

I checked it and the cards are soldiered- FRU lists three different mobos for this notebook (UMA for 5741 and two different for ATI and nVidia) and no MXM cards.

dang this sucks! how much does a mobo cost?
If it's cheap enough i might swap to the nvidia mobo

Mobos are expensive and hard to come by- you'd have to change the radiator too. Apart from that nVidia GT320M is not a fast card and it's not really much faster than HD5470. Compare these benchmarks- HD5470 and GT 320M.
Although 3DMark06 looks better on GT320M none of the games confirms that. And even assuming that 3DMark reflects performance difference better than those two games- it's still not enough to do any serious gaming.
You'd be better off (both in terms of money saved and fps gained) by selling 5742G and buying something with HD5650.
