    Hello,

i have found this forum while searching on google for a solution to my problem... i've already wrote a mail to acer support, but in the meantime if someone could help...

I've purchased a 5684 in a megastore, and this was the last one on exposition.

So it had Vista installed and the language already choosen by default and is french. I' ok with it, but would prefer English... Apparently i cannot go back anymore....

As i use it mainly for music and i was in a hurry, i've installed XP in a separate location on the same partition as the folder /windows/.
Since this, i cannot access vista anymore...

i found on the net that the two should be installed on separate location.

how can i go back now?

I've tried the <alt><f10> options but when i hit the keys i get a sound and the sistem go straight to win XP.....

Is there no way to recover or istall Vista now, and then remove the old version? There is no CD of Vista in the package... so i didn't even got the time to do the recovery CD that it says at the begin....

please help... even if i need only XP at the moment, but would like to see vista in action... As i have a serial number for it, sticked under the laptop, but don't have an istallation CD...

    thanks

indeed..... i could reinstall XP on the D partiton, then remove the folder with XP on C. But i should also edit some boot files and i'm not sure which ones...

Vista sucks big time ... such a resource hog. Anyone care to enlighten me to the benefits of Vista over XP Pro for home use? (Bell and whistles are excluded ... I even stick with Classic view with XP Pro).

You have a valid licence key then consider D/L-ing a clean copy from somewhere. Can't say it'd work for sure but I'd give it a go rather than start wasting hours messing around.

I'm not much help today I'm afraid but I do so like to just re-partition and clean install. I generally go for 2 x 10GB partitions which i call XP1 and XP2 so as soon as XP1 gets too dirty I switch to XP2 and then re-install or use Drive Image to restore all ready for the enevitable switch back. Of course I keep my personal folders on the E: Drive so it's simple to set-up with no loss of personal settings. Each to their own mind you :)

    Good Luck

well... i know i could download a copy of vista **somewhere**... but as there is a version istalled i would use it, expecially because of all the programm from acer that will make the use of the laptop easier for my wife... i'll never use it, unless there will be the driver for the audio pro i'm using... and for the moment there is no...

I also know that there is a partiton where i could install a new version of XP, but what i'm asking is after installed what is the file to edit (and how) to make the dual boot works... :)

    ok, i solved it...

After reading on other forums that Vista sends informations to microsoft, can shut down your PC and other nice features.... plus i don't have the driver for my audio stuff....
well... i have a brand new machine with XP on it that works really well....

Vista is not the solution for me right now... i reformatted all and i ahve only XP now.
