Just wondering if anyone has got their 5672 to burn DVD's any faster than 2x. I know its rated for 8x's but I can even get close to that. I am using Nero 7 with Memorex DVD-R 16x media.

If anyone has some suggestions/tips I would appreciate them.

    Thanks

are you plugged into mains or running off battery. also are you using any drive silencing software ( I think its only Toshiba that supply this though)
basically the software slows down the drive to make it quieter.

    I can burn @ 8x with generic Datawrite 8x dvd-r's

I havent used nero 7 with it yet I shall however be running the demo to check that out

I have been plugged in everytime I have burned a DVD.

And no I am not using any silencing program.

I agree that this Mat****a (and the fact that the mod censors the name by itself just cracks me up!) is the worst inbuilt DVD burner that I have ever experienced.
I bought a new batch of Sony -R discs, that are 8x rated, and they are burning at 4x max. This, plus the fact that there is no RPC1 firmware, and that DVD region-free does not work with it, and the fact that it cannot bitset to ROM, means that it is the worst POS drive that I have ever used. I did not do my research thoroughly enough, and assumed that my long-ago paid for copy of DVD region-free would be sufficient, as it is on my Compaq. Of course, I regret it now ;( Hugely.
I am burning all my stuff, at 8x, with my external, bitset, RPC1, trusty LiteOn drive. This is not why I bought the new laptop! If there was a money back policy where I bought my 5672, it would be back in the shop now.
    Sucks...

Try some Taiyo Yuden discs, they are the best. I agree, Masheeta drives are crap.
