    Hi all,

Does anyone know if Acer has come out with a BIOS update to fix the grainy issue with the X1600 like ASUS did with theirs?

nope, ACER havent released any new BIOS (VGA BIOS actually) to solve this yet. Only ASUS and I think Toshiba have.

SSX, grainy problem is wellknown problem of ATI X1600. It affects all laptop with X1600. It is caused by bug in its VGA BIOS.
Well, if you do not notice it, I suggest dont try to find it. Be happy with what you have.
Once you notice it, you will not be able to ignore it :(

Put the clear blue (none) background on your desktop and look at it. You should see freckling of lighter gray color all through it. But as was said.. you might not want to look for it. If you find it you'll notice it all the time and it'll really bug you.

Needless to say, when that was fixed on the ASUS S96J the picture became a dream come true. It's _gorgeous_. Better than I would've expected for a laptop, but exactly what I wanted with that X1600.

I first noticed it on the S96J in World of Warcraft. The clouds looked... powdery... speckled, instead of soft and fluffy.

I hope they're working on it. I recommended that laptop for my sister, and she's really enjoying it, but I want her to see how good it should really look.
