Done quite a bit of research and googling. Im unable to get the sound to work when I have HDMI connected to my 4820TG. There is no HDMI showing on the playback in sound options. Wondering if anyone else is having the same issues?

Updated drivers via acers website. Not sure what else to try? Bronsky? :D

Found ATI HDMI Audio Device drivers off Realtek's website. Gonna install them when I get home and see if that works. Not sure why they wouldnt have come with the driver already installed.

HDMI video & audio output works fine for me through both ATI & Intel graphics.

ATI HDMI Audio Device was preinstalled on my 4820TG.

Why would they? ATI cards have a separate audio chip that has nothing to do with HD onboard codec- it's just a coincidence that both are made by Realtek. You can either use Realtek's HDMI driver for ATI or HDMI driver that is a part of ATI Catalyst (depending on which one is more recent) At present the driver you mentioned available via Realtek website is more up to date.

I dunno, I guess I was just thinking it would be nice if it all worked right out of the box. The laptop has only been in the US for a few weeks now, shouldnt have to do much to it I wouldnt think.

Did it show HDMI as an option on your playback device list? I currently only have speakers and digital output.

There's no tab for HDMI but if you use Realtek drivers it shows in the vertical pane on the right- first you have analog connectors and then digital ones- SPDIF and HDMI.
Check in device manager if you have two audio devices- as you should have.

Were you able to get it working? I tried the Ati HDMI driver off the Realtek site but I keep getting no driver supported when installing.

edit: I found the solution to my problem. Needed to go into device manager and enable the second High Definition Audio controller under system devices.
