Im having a hard time trying to determine which model to purchase.
The reason im purchasing this laptop is for church presentation purposes. I will be using the video out to two projectors. Software I will be using includes propresenter4 and Adobe indesign.
Do you think I can get away with just the Integrated HD graphics or would you suggest I purchase the 4820TG with discrete video?
-
lol u'll be fine with the 4820t save ur money
-
These are the requirements for the software I will be running.
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 or higher that supports dual display (Min. 512MB VRAM & PCI Express or 8X AGP that supports DirectX Version: 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c) or higher) -
Go with the 4820TG. It'll be more future proof & the price difference shouldn't be that much. Probably about $100 difference.
-
Where are you located? If you are in the US, the 4820TG is not available to you yet. If you are in the UK, you are in luck. They have the perfect solution for you, the 4820TG with the HD5470 GPU. It is perfect for multimedia presentation.
The other thing is that the cost increase from a T model to the TG model is rather small. In the US, the price differential is $50. Acer Launches TimeLineX Notebooks At that cost, I would almost always go with a dedicated GPU for multimedia work. In the US, the GPU available would be the HD5650. It is not on sale ATM. If you can wait, it will handle all of your needs and then some. When you're not using it for church presentations, you could develop an online gaming habit with the capabilities of this notebook.
Let us know where you're located so we know what to suggest.

Thanks for the info bronsky. I noticed no one carries th TG yet except a computer store by me has it in somehow? I went and had them unbox it and everything. They have the Aspire TimelineX AS4820TG-5637 - Carbon Black. I cant find it anywhere else currently though. Any idea when its expected to be realesed at other stores in the US?

I hear ya. Once this info hits the site here, they will go like hotcakes ... just a heads up in case you want to reconsider. BTW, the I3-350M seems like a great CPU for you too. I would stick with that model. You do not need anything more powerful.
Glad I could help.

I think you guys should keep this secret to yourselves. There is a reason why *****center is not posting this to the public. It will cause trouble for other retailers because they are trying to sell the rest of the inventory. Until we start seeing it advertised in their papers, then we should keep quiet about this.
Please, edit your messages. Thanks. -

Yes, it is posted on their website, but they aren't advertising it yet. Wait a week or so until they advertise it in their papers. If you tell everyone now. You are messing with other retailer sales.

Sorry, I'm not not trying to sound rude. It's just their marketing strategy. *****center just happened to receive this laptop in stock earlier than other retailers. Thanks for editing your message. I appreciate it.

Thanks. If we can help in anyway after you get your unit, feel free to let us know. I do a lot of presentation with my computers and will be setting up my 3820TG for that purpose.

Not only that, I have a real issue about not telling potential buyers about a product that is publically available. I think they need to know. Many people are making decisions based on the unavailibility of this model. If it is for sale, as it apprently is, I think readers of this site should know. Unless you have a real issue with it, I am posting the link to the product on the Arrandale thread. I'll do so without comment if that helps.

could have a 4820tg in my hands in literally 20 minutes...
*must. wait. for. i5. version.*

edit: what bronksy said -

At least you know you don't have much longer to wait. I can't wait until there are some units out there that we can get some real owners' reviews.

Edit: Acer.3820TG - you started all of this, you know. As soon as I ordered a unit from Germany, some version of the 5650TG was destined to be released in the US. As it turns out, the anouncement was less than 24 hours after I got confirmation of the order. -

BTW, don't worry about keyboard flex, its correctable and typical in an Acer. I have been using a 1410T as my primary business laptop for the past 4 months and the keyboartd has been fine. I am tired of the small unit though and want something larger. I'll be hooking the 3820TG into a large display and full keyboard at my desk. Also, the display issues origianlly noted in the 3820TG largely resolved as well. You should get the full 200nit brightness out of your unit. I would prefer a better resolution on a 14" but you can't have everything. -
Intel X25-M Mainstream SSDSA2MH080G2R5 2.5" 80GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive. -
but provided your shipment goes well, you will have all of us drooling over your modded 3820TG
in all seriousness though, im putting more thought into this i3 350 vs i5 450... i already have an SSD, backlit keyboard, HDD caddy lined up so its not about saving money... but will the extra $100 to get the i5 actually be worth it? like, will i even notice a difference between them in games like starcraft 2, diablo 3, and battlefield bad company 2? im starting to doubt it..
maybe im better off getting the i3 then upgrading to an i5 560M or 580M or something later down the road when they are released in Q4... -
-
i am not taxed from them, and i will probably be able to get at least 12% bing cash back.
Now that I think about it... $100 saved from getting the i3.. 8% tax saved and 12% saved from bing cash back... that's going to be at least $200... which will probably be more than enough to let me grab the i5 560/580M when they are released in Q4...
i think im gonna get the i3... upgrade the cpu myself next spring.. diablo 3 wont even be out until next summer at the earliest anyway... -
-
but now im reconsidering... currently the i5 430/520/540 are at least $230 + tax on provantage.com... so the 560/580 will be priced similarly..
then the question of what can i do with the 350m processor? will it even get a decent chunk of change on ebay / nbr marketplace, in 6-8 months?
and im pretty sure i gotta tear down the entire notebook to upgrade the CPU... not really digging that... arg.. decisions -
You couldnt pay me to tear down an entire notebook. what a mess. -
i mean, the tier 1 4820TG is already on microcenter and IN STOCK... not like its a pre order or anything
i expect both TG models to be available in the coming weeks at most
haha kinda funny to see a fully loaded 14" notebook w/ 5650 and SSD for church lol -
-
The 4820TG is $866 with tax (at you know where).
The only reason I asked if you guys to not post about the location is because one of my friends works there and he asked me to respond to this topic. They have a bunch of laptops in stock and are trying to sell older models before putting newer models on display. -

So...is it end of July then (or earlier) for the i5s or the 5820tgs?
I do a lot of statistical number crunching (large data sets 300MB to 1GB size).
I actually have an i7 quad in a Sony F right now... but the weight and battery of the TimelineX is so sexy
Sides, my wife loves this Sony and she would be happy to have it... -

Funny, Aylafan was worried that there would be a run on the I3-350 4820TG but it seems like everyone is more interested in the I5.
