Hi. I have a Acer 3820tg, and having some troubles with my cpu fan, sometimes it starts and runs normally, and sometimes it don't. I have tried do reset bios and update it which didn't work. I have also tried to flash the ec with the files i found here after that the fan spins up and runs for a couple of minutes, but then stops again.

When i look at the fan when it won't spin up it is turning a couple of rounds and then stops again, and don't go up to normal speed, so it looks like it doesn't get enough power to run.

I have also cleaned out all the dust i could see in the fans and there is no weird grinding noises when the fan is running.

Any ideas about what could be wrong would be appreciated :)

    Thanks.

I'm assuming that you're outside of the warranty period. If not, I would send it in, after confirming that the temps are getting over 45C-50C range while the fan remains static.

Run HW monitor and confirm that the fan is failing to run while the CPU is over 50C. What happens if you put the CPU under load. Does the fan stay off until the CPU throttles?

Yap one month over warranty :/
Temps get up to 100c when i don't throttle the cpu even without any load, and if i put it under load the fan still won't start.

Thanks but that's the one i linked to in my post post and as i wrote the fan spins up but stops again after a short time, well actually sometimes it won't start when doing the flash either.
Yup i have also taken the laptop apart and cleaned out the dust from the fan.

Okay, not good, but it seems pretty strange that it works sometimes and sometimes not don't it?
The next question is: Does anyone know where i can get a new cpu fan? I have searched ebay and amazon but all the fans labeled "cpu fan" are actually gpu fans :( and they are not the same type

What you need is the heat sink w/fan part # 60.PCT01.003. Google it and lot of suppliers come up.

Just enter 60.PCT01.003 in the search field.
