I just sent bronsky a big ole message about Acer warranties sayin I was to nervous to post here but here I am. Sorry bronsky :D Don't be mad. @bronsky, my msg to you was a little more in depth so please still respond when you can.

    -------- Question 1 --------
How do Acer warranties work? Is there a 1 year limited Acer warranty included when you buy one? Do you need to register? What information do you need to register? Or do you have to pay for any kind of 1 year warranty? What's the jist?

I noticed NCIX has 2 different Acer notebook warranties for sale.
    - Acer 1 Year MAIL-IN Warranty - Service for All Acer Notebooks
This link doesn't include any information. So is it an Acer warranty or a NCIX service warranty? Anyone know?

    - Acer 2 Year Extension of Limited Warranty for Notebooks
That one has a lot more information and explains itself but it doesn't say if you need to buy the warranty from link 1 first?

So who here understands how Acer warranties work, and could explain it to me if I wanted a warranty for an Acer notebook?

    -------- Question 2 --------
Coolers!!! Anyone know of a portable cooling pad or portable blower that works well to cool the dual exhaust 3820TG? I've been looking for a while but can't seem to find anything I like or looks like it might work well adding a little extra cooling to a 3820TG but also remain portable. Something with fans.

Thanks for all the info folks!

Not to hijack, but I'm also looking for a cooling pad like this. Fans, or no fans, just something that you can put the notebook on your lap with. I have one of the pillow-bottom, plastic-top lap rests, but I find it doesn't really do anything..

    Cheers.

When you buy a new Acer 3820TG from Canada, it comes with a 1 year factory warranty. The first thing I recommend doing when you get your computer is register your warranty. http://support.acer.com/us/en/register/default.aspx Warranty 1 is the standard 1 year warranty you get on the 3820TG, no need to buy it from NCIX. The other is a 2 year total warranty (it does not extend the 1 year by 2 more, just 2 total). You might want to check the Acer price to see if it is more or less than the NCIX price. It looks like NCIX also has a 30 day warranty where you cen return the unit to them within the first 30 days. I find the mail-in depot warranty service to be okay.

Once you register your unit, you can check the price of upgraded warranties direct from Acer. https://secure3.tx.acer.com/FindSyst...spx?brand=acer As you can see from the warranty page, the warranty on the Canadian unit is good in the US, as they are a part of the same region. For warranty work (after the NCIX 30 day return) you have to take or send the unit to your local repair depot. In the US, that is Temple Texas. I have no idea about Canada, but there is one there.

Why in gods name would anyone put a cooler on a 3820TG. It can run at full speed all day and make ice at the same time.
