I am rather pleased so far with the overall feel of this laptop. Mine was the same as Tech Girl's. 1.73m, 100 gig seagate momentus 5400rpm, x700-64meg, xp home (no cd-recovery only) and 50/50 partitioned in FAT32 ughhh!
My only ***** is the fat32 fiasco, not a problem so far but why???
It is a quick and snappy rig. 3dmark01se @800x600 was almost 19000! Regardless, i hate the number crap, this 64 meg card plays the following at max res, all eye candy and rocks! NFSU2, UT2004, SW rep.commando. Half Life 2,
that's about all i have had time to pack into this machine. Screen is the exact same as toshiba trubrite, sony etc. they call this crystalbrite, seems great, no ghosting at all. Only pain is the synaptic touch pad, kinda crappy sensitivity and frustrating vertical scrolling. oh well, bought a usb mouse and am happy.
Bought it at The source - circuit city in canada. got the 3 year extended warranty all in at $ 2050 taxed in. Get a free battery replacement in the third year too? if I remember? All in all i give it a 4.5 out of five - only draw back was the touch pad- **** long post for a noob, sorry folks.

I'd have to agree with what you're saying. I have the same notebook, except it's 2.0 ghz instead of 1.73. The only thing I'm dissapointed in, when comparing to other notebooks, is the screen. The colours are not as bright and vibrant on this screen as they are on other new notebooks.

Same here. I have a TM4402, and the screen is kind of dull. Definitely needs a contrast boost. Man, I wish I could customize my Acer - I would add on the CrystalBrite screen for sure!

Mine has the Crystal Bright screen...but it is still noticeably duller than a lot of other notebooks such as the new Dell, Sony and Toshiba notebooks.

The screen is definately good..just not as good as others. Also the build isn't as strong as some other manufacturers'. But this is the trade off for the price...

I've got the 1694 and the screen is a lot better then a lot of notebooks I was looking at. I got a 100GB hdd, 1 GB Ram, 2.0Ghz, and crystal bright screen for $300 less then the other which all seemed to have half the ram, 60-80gb drives, 1.7 or 1.8 ghz processor and non-crystal bright. Only thing that I'm pissy about is the lack of blue tooth and non-SATA hard drive. But now I'm drulling over the 9105, 17" wsvga :p , 2 GB ram  , 120 GB hdd SATA :) , bluetooth , wifi, sub woofer, everything, 2G :centrino: , so sweet. I'd sell my left nut for one :D
