    Dear all,

please help me out of dilemma! I got two offers, one for 1681 WMLI and one for 2012 WLCI.

I'v read great reviews on 2012 and can't find any on 1681 :-(

But at the end, the notebooks are very similar, the major diferences are:

    feature 1681 2012
    -----------------------------------
    proc | 2MB cahce | 1MB
    HDD | 60GB | 40GB
    DVD-CDRV | DVD-multy | DVD-CDRW
    Battery | 2h | 5h
    price | 1681 US $200 more than 2012

battery factor is not that much important, as i plan to use
it as desktop replacement / field work

are 20GB and DVD writter worh the $200 difference?

What is general opinion about 1681? Does any1 have a review??

    TIA
    jernej

    Hey,

Are you ever going to use the DVD writer? Do you need a lot of hard disk space? If you think these might be yes, then I think the 1681 is definitely the one to go with. DVD writers are generally expensive to purchase for a notebook, and 20 Gigs is certainly a good amount of memory. But another thing that is bumping the price up is that you're getting the Dothan processor in the 1681 as opposed to the Banias processor in the 2012. The Dothan runs faster, cooler, and has a better battery life. However, the reason you're getting less battery life out of the 1681 vs. the 2012 is the fact that it has a 4 cell as opposed to an 8 cell in the 2012. So if a slightly faster processor(maybe 20%?), a DVD writer, and a slightly larger hard drive are important to you, then get it. Otherwise save yourself the 200 and get the 2012.
Oh yeah! You're getting a much better graphics card in the 1681 as well. So if you're gaming at all, this is a consideration as well.
