Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has solution, I have an older ACER 3630 laptop with 512mb (KVR333X64SC25/512) in the first slot and 1gb (KVR333X64SC25/1G) in the second slot. When I put the 1 GB stick in the first slot by itself I get errors and shut down yet when I revert to the first mentioned set up all works fine. Memtest86 done and both sticks pass. Thanks for any comments :)

Why can't you just run it as it is?

I don't see why it shouldn't work actually. What you can try is to update your BIOS and then try again. And, if you're going to buy new RAM sticks, make sure you can return and get a full refund, in case it does not work :)

If it costs extra then it will be useless. Your new 400 Mhz sticks will downclock to 333 Mhz.

I'm not entierly sure on this but your System Bus Speed is 400 Mhz. I'm quite sure whatever RAM you buy, you will actually be able to run them at 400Mhz.

However, as most of the NBR guys would say; You won't notice a diffence between 333 and 400 Mhz if you don't do heavy benchmarks..

But then again, if you can, why leave a 0,5-2% performance increase out? :D

    Go for the 400 Mhz.
